For anyone who is interested, the new larger eyecup for the A1S can be ordered directly from Canon and is a perfect fit for older A1 cameras. Canon parts can be reached at 732-521-7230. Cost is $28.10 plus $6 shipping (they charge state sales tax too). The part number is D54-0140-000. It's important to have the part number when you call as it took them 10 minutes to locate the part number when I called the first time (turns out it is listed in the back of the A1S manual). The second time I called to place the order, the salesperson swore up and down there was no match to the part number I gave her (she eventually found it as well). Any authorized Canon dealer should be able to order it too.
It's a definite improvement over the existing eyecup. It just slips over the built-in eyecup. In my opinion, better than the Sony eyecup everyone has been using and cheaper too. Word of caution though, it is very large, much larger than my HMC-150 eyecup. Personally I like it but the existing eyecup may be a better fit if you have a narrow or small face. Now if I can only find a chamois that will fit it.
