Best Wireless Lav Mic?

Hi that video was great! How did you get it so it didnt rustle badly, im having that problem with my sanken cos 11s. Also I am interested in getting the g3's but am confused a little as theres loads of band of frequencys. Does it really matter? Also can i use my sanken cos 11s with their xlr outputs with it as well!?

One more question (I know I know), but if i got the g3, how do i mount the receiver AND my small hd dp6 on my af100? I only have the one hot shoe mount. But i've seen images of peoples rigs on here where they have loads of stuff attached. I see small hd sell a moveable arm mount but that still uses a hot shoe connection!

That is one of my many gripes I have about modern cameras. The lack of enough shoe mounts. I wish they would stick 3 or 4 of them around the body. Seems like there is plenty of room now that there is not big door opening on the side to remove a tape.

Taras, there are usually some screw holes on the handle. get a device that screws into it and has a shoe mount on the other end.

I have been using RODE PinMIC. It's a bit pricey.. but the setup is so cool. There would be no visible wire on the talent. I have been using them on Grooms at weddings.

Hi guys, thanks for the help. I'm ready to buy some now however I just discovered, due to my ignorance, that theres a big issue with frequency in the uk, and i cant buy a set from bh photo as they will not ship to the uk for this reason. Personally, I can't see how the uk government can find out if im using a little bitty wireless or something. My main question is, as I live in the uk but will be going to canada next year to shoot films there for the forseeable future, is there a sennheiser g3 pack i can buy which i can use in both countries? If the usa one wont work in the uk, can i buy a uk g3 pack then bring it to canada and be ok? Any one have any idea? Its all very confusing...

I think i may have to leave the wireless mics and just get the tascam dr 100 and record actors into that as my "wireless". I've been told a license is like 100 quid! ... a year :/

I second the PinMic. Great little mic. Just make sure to inform the talent not to fool with it. If they try to take it off themselves, they'll probably break something (had that happen).

The pin mic isnt a wireless mic though is it? isnt it the same as the sanken and trams etc, needs an xlr cable to the camera or a recorder?

The PicMic is just a lav mic. You can use it with your wireless transmitter/receiver so it becomes wireless. I use it with an Olympus voice recorder then sync the additional audio track in post. It's still cool with no visible wire.

I made a mistake at the last wedding. The groom's jacket was kinda thick. I still pin on his jacket. After the wedding, the mic cap was gone. I guess it was the groom keep hugging people and cling the mic cap off. I contacted RODE as customer (we are also their authorized dealer). Got an RMA and have a new one in mail next day.

Lesson learned, next time for thick jacket like this, I will be using the clip comes with it.

The PinMic is part of the Rode MiCon system with interchangeable cables and adapters. You can use it with almost any wireless system. You need to buy the appropriate MiCon adapter for the transmitter you want to plug it into -- in my case it's a MiCon-1 for my Sennheiser G2s, or a MiCon-5 to use it wired with XLRs and phantom power. The adapters are $20 - $30 apiece in addition to the cost of the microphone. It's a versatile system and seems well thought out.

See http://www.rodemic.com/mics/pinmic and look at the adapters and accessories listed at the bottom of the page.

Lol thanks guys. My concern still isnt the actual mic to much, (my sanken cos mics are pretty nice) its a wireless system. I'm prepared to pay the money for the sennehsier g3 kit, from what people have said are really quite impressive and the minimum you should look for in a wireless system. However, my main concern is i buy them and then cant take it with me to Canada (i live in the UK). I find it incredible there isnt a standard wireless mic i can use in different countries. So i guess people have always had to buy new kits if the have to film in different locations around the globe, expensive!

It's all about what the radio frequencies are allocated for in the different countries - TV, Cell Phones, Emergency, Air Traffic, good old radio, wifi, etc… The frequencies for Canada and the U.S. are the same - and i've used my Canadian frequency G3's in Hong Kong.

Cheers for the info dude. I'll check out if they're the same as england, what channel do you personally use and do you pay for a license over there to?

I don't always use the same freq's - I start by scanning to see what is free in the location where I'm shooting (a nice feature of the G3's). No license fee here for using a radio mic.

Anyone in canada know if you can use the following frequencys for your wireless mics: 823-856mhz ? Ive spent hours trawling google but with no luck! I have an option to buy some mics in this range which is good as their licence free for the uk but i want to bring them to canada too, but want to know if that band is ok?
