best tool for avi to mov conversion?

so, this question might not be as simple as it sounds. what i want to do is read the avi file using vfw so i can use the picvideo codec and its advanced deblocking feature, and export it to quicktime prores. quicktime player and other quicktime based tools only import using the built in avi support and doesn't use the vfw codec. i guess premiere can do it, but i was looking for a simple batch conversion tool. for now i convert to huffyuv avi's, then to prores using quicktime with perian. it works but it doesn't feel very optimal. any ideas?

(yes, this is for d90 footage specifically, hence this group)

Hi Matt.

Not sure if that will help but did you try Cineform?
Their "HD link" tool is a great AVI to MOV and vis versa tool.

Thanks.

great suggestion, except they only support quicktime prores output on the mac as far as i can tell, which means i can't use the picvideo codec anyway.

thanks, but you got it backwards. i don't want to use avi on the mac (flip4mac is wmv only btw) but export to quicktime on the pc, to take advantage of the picvideo codec.

might actually work, although as it's quicktime based so i wouldn't be surprised if it used the quicktime mjpeg codec to read the file. i'm downloading the windows version now.

no, it uses quicktime unfortunately. it opens divx avi's with vgw though so the functionality is there. i'll email the author, i've been in contact with him before. thanks guys.
