Best software for making DVD??

Im disappointed with the DVD quality Im producing. Im using Adobe Premier PP2s codec. Most of my DVD attempts have been wedding or event videos that range from 45mins to an hour. Ive gotten up to 7.5 bit rate, but still the video quality is not good......not close to my original DVX original footage.

Should I be using other compression software.....what do you use for best quality?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I too havent been impressed with premiere's export to dvd (or any other format for that matter). I use TMPG express to do my converting and the results are fantastic. I just export a full res avi out of premiere and feed it into tmpg and it spits out an mpeg for dvd use (or a wmv, or quite a few other file types). I think the program was like $75 and has been one of the most valuable utilities I've used. Then any dvd authoring program should be able to take the mpeg and not have to transcode it at all leaving you with nice sharp work.

thanks Jda...

I will search for the software, and give it a try. Please let me know what settings you use if "custom".

oh BTW....Im downloading Sorensen Squeeze trial. It's overpriced but I may consider it after I see the results .

I find that burning a DVD in Premiere usually yields a inferior quality final piece. I always burn my DVDs in Encore from an uncompressed AVI file.

i have the same problem whit the adobe software ( premiere or encore dvd).
the blaks are different from the original dv.

Looks like there are "many" choices..........PP2 NOT being one of them.
I cant believe Adobe doesnt improve their DVD export system.....maybe its better in CS3?

Thanks for the tips...

Looks like, from the demos, that Sorensen Squeeze OR TMPGENC4XP...are great programs. Big difference in price.

Which of the two above would you recommend....I dont see much difference in quality on "my" DVD player...and BOTH are better than using PP2. TMPGEN...is really slow encoding....but that's ok if the quality is good.

Thanks,
Jeff

I've gotten great results with tmpeg4x but have never used squeeze... I would say that if you are ok with the slow speed just go with tmpeg since its cheaper. Or take your tests to a friend with a giant tv/projector and make sure you can't tell a difference.

Perhaps the best encoder out there is the CINEMA CRAFT ENCODER. Pretty expensive, but its results are truly amazing...

Good luck!

Yeah, weird since Premiere CS3 has an "Export to Encore" feature... if you use it you wind up with crap, I tried just exporting to AVI (not using Adobe Media Encoder) and then bringing the AVI into Encore and it produced a MUCH better result with my 30P timelines.

Files I transferred using "export to Encore", even after choosing the highest quality Progressive options, seemed very low res on playback from a burned DVD, while the AVIs I imported rendered out crystal clear, no artifacts, no aliasing jaggies, etc. Adobe needs to fix this...

Aside from that, Encore is pretty good... decent options and it produces nice slideshows easily... and I would blame Premiere rather than Encore for this particular problem.

update....
Other than Adobe "crushing" the blacks ..a little, I cant see much difference in resolution between TMPG encoder, and "export to DVD" with PP2.

The video Im compressing to DVD is a stage play shot at a distance, under poor lighting conditions, and in auto mode with the DVX (F5 squeeze). So resolution is shady to begin with. I probably wasted some money purchasing TMPGen.

Sorry to take up so much space....on with the show.
