Best slow motion settings?

If I shot most of a short in 24f, what would be the best frame rate to shoot scenes that I need in slow motion? Also, does shutter speed have any importance in securing great slow motion?

for the smoothest slow motion. Shoot 60i, at 1/120th shutter or higher, import that footage into a 24p project and interpret the footage as 24 fps.

Otherwise, there are programs like twixtor that do an amazing job at taking 24p footage and slowing it down.
