Best program for joining MTS?

Hi,

I tried several programs (MTS joiner, TSSplitter, TSMuxer etc.) to join MTS files (shots) into one big MTS file without re-compressing or editing with Pinnacle/Vegas.

But each of them has at least one of the following issues
- asynchronous sound
- wrong duration time
- wrong speed of some parts
- 1sec sound drop in the start of each sequence

Can you recommend me any program without these issues?
Of course I will use Pinnacle/Vegas for editing but for some footage I want joined mts files without any editing.

Thanks
Peter

The GH1 doesn't record sound for the first second of each shot.

If using a PC, Nero 9's very simple video editor will allow you to place GH1 material on the timeline, edit it, and export to AVCHD without re-encoding it.

But never spend money on something that works for me - with video, what works here may not work there!

I doubt that Nero video editor join MTS clips without recompressing... I need just simple file joining.

I read on VIMEO, that technicians from Panasonic recommend to join files through command promt:

copy /b 1.mts+2.mts+3.mts 123.mts

But even with this 123.mts shows wrong duration etc.

This only works when the MTS stream was split into multiple files in the camera like the HMC does it when the FAT32 file size limit is reached.

Well... it does. And just to prove it, I've just put 96 clips on the Nero timeline (720p) and exported to a single 720p file.

Time taken from the moment the program interface appeared to file being finished, including browsing to the relevant directory to find the files, and Nero analysing them and adding them to the timeline, to make a 34 minute unedited movie, 8 minutes and one second.

Time taken just to 'render' the 34 minutes of material, excluding getting it to the timeline etc, 3 minutes and 22 seconds.

Now this is on a quad core PC but it's obviously whizzing through the footage way faster than any recompressing could be done. What it is doing is putting the correct time info into the file otherwise NLE software can get very confused.

If I was running a newsroom and wanted the means to get high quality video to air as fast as possible, I'd probably use Nero to get the job done. It very much challenges the notion that editing (in the sense of cutting rather than adding transitions and effects) AVCHD is a difficult and timeconsuming process.

The other way of doing it is to use tsMuxeR but in order to get it to add the files one after another, you have to click the add button for each clip and select the one you have to add - which with over 90 clips it kind of tedious. Nero enables you to do it in one go.

Ok, I will look to Nero.

BTW what about original SW from Panasonic, there is some program for getting Photos and Videos from GH1, isn't there any way how to get clips in one file?

One annoying thing about the Nero 9 demo is that it takes forever to download, and you don't know it has no AVCHD capabilities until you actually try it

Kind of misleading

You too? So, I guess the question is, how to get the right version of Nero Vision without the other apps?

I don't think Nero Vision is obtainable without the rest of the program. Hmmm - no AVCHD in the demo version? That's a pain. I've been using Nero 8 then 9 a long time so I've not seen the demo version recently.

Now a program named Aunsoft Final Mate is a professional editor for joining and splitting AVCHD files.

You can have a try
