thanks...im trying to learn more about miniDV because as of right now I use a hard drive JVC camera....so this is a pretty large upgrade im really excited to be able to make good quality movies...what happens if you dont use the same brand alot? i heard you have to run a cleaner or something like that when switching different brands? can someone tell me why thanks for all of the help on more newbie questions

i am not sure, but i know different tapes use different stuff inside and that is a bad thing, but i dont know why. i have used lots of different ones but im trying to stick with panasonic now unless its necessary

yea i think that when i order my DVX100B I am just going to buy those panasonic AMQ tapes in a large pack...that way ill be set for a while. Steven, i was watching your videos on youtube and i like them alot..nice work

thanks. i have 5 amqs and thats all i have used for a while. since they are kind of pricey i couldnt buy a ton like i used to do with the cheaper tapes

These are the tapes that I use.

PANASONIC AY-DVM63AMQ Advanced MASTER MiniDV TAPES

I have never had a problem with them. I will only use these in my DVX. They are expensive, but I get a few dollars off each tape since I buy 3 to 4 boxes of tape at once. They are totally worth it.

Thanks for the help everyone...I really appreciate it. I think that I am just going to do what JCal does and buy a few boxes at a time so I get a few dollars of but still get the AMQ tapes.

Tapes all do the same thing. What you were hearing about different types relates to the lubricant each tape uses; many of them are different, and in theory mixing them can cause head clogging because the different chemicals don't always play nice. However, I've never seen this firsthand, nor do I know anyone who I know has. That idea probably was more important in the early days, but manufacturers have had time to deal with that. So, in short; medium isn't much to worry about in this format.

Sq tapes?

Sq tapes?

Wondering if anyone uses the SQ tapes. From what I understand, these are newer than the AMQ tapes and use the same technologies. Are the SQ better than the AMQ?
