7D Best Memory card for 7d?

I'm surprised this question hasn't come up before. I just bought my 7D today from a shop where they told me a 45x card would be enough. So I put a 45x card in, and video stops after 2 seconds.

What is the best CF card for video, at all frame rates including 60fps?

Thanks

I've got a SanDisk Extreme 16gb UDMA 60MB/s card, works perfectly for video and burst fire. Just bought a couple Adata Speedy 16gb cards that (so far) have proved to be a great alternative, as they're about half the price of the SanDisk, with similar performance!

As an absolute minimum I would suggest you only use 133x (and above) speed cards. I've heard good things from the Kingston range of 133x CF cards, and they're big storage on a small budget so they might be worth a look in!

Yeah, have a Kingston 133x 32GB & 3 8GB Sandisk Extreme III 30MB/s.

Both work fine. The Kingston's space is so much nicer though than switching 8GB cards, even though I got them cheap with a rebate.

I have not been a fan of Sandisk only the top of the line were fast, the others, not so much.
For Compact flash, I like ADATA at half the price. Check the specs, and reviews, they are very fast. Just my experience.

After reading reports of dropped frames and occassional problems with the kingston, I decided to play safe and go the sandisk extreme 16gb route. All is working well so far.. thanks guys!

Ok today I heard an interesting story. Someone told me that the Sandisk cards are tested for maximum read/write speeds, and Kingston and Transcend for MINIMUM read/write speeds.

She said that in the same class, the Sandisk outperforms the Kingston cards. And that a class 4 Sandisk is faster than a class 6 Transcend.

Is this true? I saw a class 6 Transcend, on the box it said 16 MB/s, whereas the Sandisk class 4 says 15MB/s.

So only 1MB/s difference...which one should I get between the two of these?? I will get two cards but obviously don't want to waste money by getting one of each brand if they won't perform well. The extreme 3 cards here are 150 USD for a 16GB card so that is out of the budget.

So anyone have any experience with 16GB Transcend class 6 or Sandisk class 4 15 MB/s?

Thanks,
Martin

In testing, the Transcend SDHC cards worked really well.
They were not as good in the Compact flash tests.
For compact flash, I have had the best speed/price with the ADATA speedy 533x cards.

The Adata speedy 533x cards are about $76 USD delivered. for 16gig

Thanks Green Hornet

So would you recommend Transcend class 6 (16MB/s) over Sandisk class 4 (15MB/s)?

I would not buy a class 4 card at all from either party.

The Sandisks are varied in performance unless you get the top of the line,
and then they are over priced in my view.

For SDHC, I would get a transcend class 6

For Compact flash, I would get the Speedy Adata 533x cards for around $76 delivered (16gb)

Anyone tried the kingston 16gb 266x cards? I have heard good/decent things about the 133x cards so these should be better but who knows there are always compatability things

Also the 266x kingston are cheaper than the 133x on amazon which worries me? Sidenote I am actually using a 5d not a 7d though in theory it shouldn't matter

Transcend Extreme-Speed 400x 32GB - cheap, fast enough for video and nice capacity - for photo sequences i would use an sandisk extreme III
