Best lens for shooting in tight places? Aka cars, small rooms, etc.

The thread title says it all. I have a T2i and will finally be shooting something which can be inside of a car, small room and maybe night time shoots.

I was thinking of a 20mm f2.8 ,24mm f1.4 or 28mm f1.8.

Opinions please.

Thank you

I'm sure people are getting sick of hearing it on here but the Tokina 11-16 kicks some arse. It's fast and it's wide, with great image quality for stills and video. For a car you probably would need something that wide anyway cause remember a 24mm becomes about a 40mm with the crop so not even really a wide anymore.

The Tokina is f2.8. I don't consider that particularly fast. Most consumer handycams have lenses that are twice as fast (though not as good optically).

It is wide though.

I seem to have a misunderstanding with maybe Wide/Close. Wide allows a larger view left to right, correct?

Which size lens do I need to be able to focus on someone/something close then, it doesn't have to be wide just be able to be right on top of someone and film?

for a car id def go with a wide zoom, the tokina or tamron 17-50,that way you can shoot all your cut ins, close ups, B roll without having to change lenses a hundred times.

But really just depends. If you want smething wide, fast and cheap youll def want a prime. 20 or 24mm is reasonably priced.

+ 1 for the Tamron 17-50 or Canon 17-55

Tokina 11-16 is *really* wide... so even though you will fit more in your frame, the perspective tends to go wacky (@11mm). 17-50 is a more versatile focal range.

@PerroneFord: Most consumer handycams don't have lenses that give you the FOV of a 11mm lens @ APS-C. Usually you have to tack on a wide angle adapter in front of the built-in lens, nullifying the built-in fast lens.

Name one lens of 18mm or less that covers S35 chip that is faster than 2.8

I want it

Close and Wide are two different things.

For close focus use a macro lens.
Or get a diopter or close focus lens on the front of a 50mm like this

For Wide inside a car use a wide zoom like the
canon mount tokina 11-16/2.8, canon 16-35/2.8L or
if you are on a budget EFS 10-22/3.5-4.5

Just be wary of getting a fisheye unless thats the effect you want.

until quite recently a canon 24 f1.4 was the sh!t, then along came RED and they've made a tack sharp PL mount 18mm f1.8 which can be yours for $4750 plus tax
(you'll need a PL modded t2i to mount it tho, now wouldn't that be something ...)

WOW, that looks crazy!

I though "L" lenses were expensive , lol. Thank you to everyone with all of the great information.

We just shot a long one take driving scene using the 7D and the Tokina 11-16. Looked great but the roads were bad and the jello almost made it unuseable. Next time Im going Tamron for it.

There's at least 10 lenses there that meet your criteria. Go get one. And bring your Visa, Amex, cash, and first born...

(I didn't even include the Panchro's at T2, but they'd be cheaper than these options. Maybe only a few grand each)
