C100: best LCD hood

hi all,

does anybody have any suggestions for LCD hood for the C100, Mark ii?

looking at hoodman 450...but not sure if it will fit properly.

thanks for all suggestions.

I have not found one. My hood was essential on the original C100, but now on the mkII, if I'm having trouble seeing the LCD, I just use the EVF.

I just bought a Hoodman HD350. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=email&A=details&Q=&sku=840775&is=REG

Works pretty well. It seems just a tad small for the LCD, but everything does fit within the edges, just not much leeway.

I used to have a Sachtler SAMH35 SA1009 Mini Hood (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1115068-REG/sachtler_sa1009_mini_hood.html), which was a bit better of a fit for the C100 Mark II's LCD. I lost it on a shoot and decided to try out the Hoodman instead. The main advantage I like about the Hoodman is it's quicker to assemble, as the Petrol requires snapping some pieces together which takes longer, and also has a second piece to attach, which offers more sun protection, but since the original piece is not as deep as the Hoodman, it also needs that extra piece more (view photos for better description of what I'm talking about). Not sure which one I like better overall. I think the Hoodman.

I have both the Sachtler and Hoodman sizes for my C300 Mark IIs, and I definitely prefer the Hoodman for that. Don't think I've ever actually used the Sachtler one even though I own it, while I have two Hoodmans for both C300 Mark IIs. Though, I don't need to use them often as the C300 Mark II LCD is wonderfully bright with the back-light setting turned on.

I've also got the Sachtler SA1016 Mini Hood (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1115070-REG/sachtler_sa1018_mini_hood.html) for my C100 Mark Is. It won't fit the C100 Mark II well as it's meant for the C100 Mark I.

thanks for the replies...odd that there's not a hood made to the C100 mark II LCD specs...

i'll try out the hoodman 350--but yeah, i keep hearing it's a bit too small...and i'm assuming the 400 might be too big.

I use LCDVF for years on multiple DSLRs and C100 mark II and I think that is the best way for monitoring and you get added stability of the camera. For C100 II you need LCDVF for the Blackmagic, https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...ackmagic_pocket_2ea_mounting_plates_soft.html

Hi Guru,
Got a question. I'm looking at getting a c100 mkII soon... yeah, I know, it's 2017... I believe you have to stick a piece of metal on the screen in order to attach the LCDVF loupe. When folding the screen back to the original off position unto the back of the camera, does the metal piece gets on the way? does the LCD folds and closes properly?

Thank you.

Hi BXL,

Yes, you have to stick a metal frame for the magnet on the loupe, that is one of the reasons that loupe is that good and usable, I get the loupe on and off probably 100 times a day during shoot. And no, you cannot close the screen face in, you have to close it face out, but I don't see that as a problem, I'm using my C100 mark II that way for 3 years no problem, it is safe in your bag, you cannot hide the screen in most DSLRs :)
