Need to shoot some soccer games.
I have one 16MB P2 and 4 4MB P2's.

Should just use tape mode instead?

Thanks,
Thomas

16 GB and 4x4 GB cards I think you mean.

That's 32 GBs which will provide 82 minutes of 720/24pN.

Or 34 minutes of 720/60p, which you can slow.

Are you trying to record the whole game or highlights of one team?

Sorry,...yes I meant 16 GB and 4x4 GB cards. DOH!

I think I need to be able to record 90 minutes at a time.
And 24pN is not the best for high action shots, right?

It works, but looks more like 'NFL Films' than the NFL on Fox. You need another card to get 90 minutes, or simply shoot in standard def. 60P HD would be my choice.

The other 'free' option is to capture directly to a laptop if you have firewire and FCP or OnLocation. You could then shoot 720 or 1080 and have lots of record time.

What about DVC Pro 50?
Can I record that to P2 cards?

Does anyone have a link to a table of P2 record times?

DVCPRO50 has a shorter record time than 720 24PN. Here are the official record times from the panasonic website (although, I get 17min and 42.5 min respectively):

Recording time on a single 16GB P2 card:

· 16 minutes in DVCPRO HD

· 40 minutes in DVCPRO HD at 24pN

· 32 minutes in DVCPRO50

· 64 minutes in DVCPRO

Yeah, recording in DVCPRO/DV to P2 card would definitely get you enough record time. Since you are going to Youtube/Vimeo, SD probably will be enough resolution.

Also, if you do have a laptop, you could shoot in one of the 720pn modes and back up some of the cards to the laptop during halftime.

Maybe bring a minidv tape or two as backup.

Hope this helps,
Andy

...on the other hand, if I can figure out how I could download everything at half time, I have enough total P2 capacity to use DVCProHD 720p30, which basically records at 2 GB per minute according to this Panasonic table.

I am thinking 720/30pN might work if I can find a way to download at halftime.

Can anyone recommend a P2 card reader adaptor for a MacBook Pro?

I think you know the answer to this, but just in case, its 2 minutes per GB or 500MB per minute.

BTW - I have the PCD2 and it is by far the cheapest 'best' way to offload P2 footage onto a MacBook Pro or any mac for that matter.
