Best HDMI-to-SDI converter for GH2

I'm shopping for a HDMI-to-SDI converter to monitor a GH2 on a 17-inch production monitor.

I know BlackMagic and AJA make them, as well as a couple other companies. Any direct experience on any of them? Any one model to recommend?

I suppose they should all work pretty well coz the GH2 outputs full HD at all time (during preview and recording) and stays at the same format, unlike the 5D. Am I correct?

Should also consider battery and mounting option. For now, my plan is to stick with the Sony camcorder battery plate idea proposed by Abel Cine.

If that monitor takes component input, you can consider using a device like the HDFury2. I used one with the 7D to get the signal into a BT-LH80W. It can plug into a VGA port or go into analog component, and at ~$150, it's a lot less expensive than a typical HDMI->SDI box. Then again, if you need SDI, you need SDI so this might not work for you.

Hi,

BMD is a good choise.

Here are some points why to choose the AJA
+ On prof. cameras you can use the powersupply from the camera (with an adapter)
+ The mounting of a BMD on a e.g. tripod is not as good as AJA (like the poewr connector is lockable on a AJA)

- you need to order a power supply to work with it - or use some other powersource
- more expensive
