Best HDMI monitor for 7D under 1000$ ???

Have an Ikan V8000 HDMI works pretty darn well.

This Monitor is also the same Identical Specs as the liliput

they both work great, I Sold My Ikan After i received the lilliput, and Just use the Ikan battery Adapter for sony L series batteries to power.

I use the Ikan 8000 expandable Hood looks killer

What was so bad about the lilliput? I've got a manhatten lcd and was thinking about selling it and grabbing one of those to save some money.

i have a lilliput and have nothing bad to say about it, I only really needed to for focusing, and its perfect for that! Plus for that price I figured I really couldnt go wrong.

I picked up the SmallHD for my main rig, and the lilliput for my secondary rig. The SmallHD is better in just about every respect, but the lilliput is a better bang-for-the-poor-no-budget-filmmaker's-buck.

I would say it's a similar drop off going from my Z-finder on my A cam to my LCDVF on my B cam.

It is not a professional product and was never intended to be used as such. Between the poor quality LCD screen which I didn't find very good for focus and absolutely useless for anything else (exposure, color, etc...) and the hack ways of adapting portable power to it I never found it's benefits outweighing it's weaknesses. I understand the argument for the "no budget filmmaker" and I am very much so one of them, but at a point I need my equipment to work and to work well. There are only so many hoops I am willing to jump through and the Lilliput was several too many.

Buy cheap buy twice, as I am doing.

I may be obtuse, but what do you mean 'hack ways of powering it'? I use the same setup with both my SmallHD and Lilliput (and would any other 12v DC LCD). It uses a standard 12v DC input so any battery plate that outputs 12v DC should work. I bought a plate that uses the cheap Sony L style batteries and it works like a charm powering all of my devices (including my sons portable DVD player, and my "pico" PC).

The model I have is perfectly acceptable for focus and framing. If Tramm is able to get ML running on the 7D, then it will be completely acceptable for me.

Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you!

I have to say the SmallHD Bundle is Awsome for the the Price and the fact that REDs are using them Says Alot.. So Out of ALL LCD Options the SmallHD LCd is Hands Down the Best Quality. Followed By the Manhattan which is like $549 Right Now, the IKan 5600 is Way more Money than the ManHattan and Smaller.

The Lilliput Is at the Bottom of These Choices But Def A Better Choice than the IKAN v8000HDMI which is 700 bucks More and the Exact same RES.

Quality /Bang for the Buck
1 smallhd/ 1 lilliput
2 manhattan /2 manhattan
3 Ikan or Lilliput /3 smallHD

If you had to choose between

1) Marshall V-LCD70P-HDMI

2) Ikan V-8000HDMI

or

3) Marshall V-LCD70P-HDA

I decided finally against the V5600 for reasons of lack of info and no good sunhood.

Is HDMI worth the price difference if you're only using it as a reference monitor?

will check back daily, make me proud :)
Also, Which Battery mount would you recommend for these monitors? ( making a purchase within the next week so need to get this info asap )

like my manhattan, hdmi works great.but the hard plastic sunshade broke before i could even try it on . i mount it on the flash shoe with a swival. and if i am shooting with the long 300 2.8 with the 2x, I have the lens mount on the tripod . that leaves the 1/4 thread on the bottom of the camera free to mount the monitor under the camera from the manhattans top thread holes .

Responded about this in another thread too but I picked up an Ikan 5600 yesterday and life is so much more simple today. Super light weight, while setting up and recording Without INFO on, almost fills the frame--a half inch or less border. With INFO on, goes to 3 1/2 by 2 1/2 but is so easy to see and so sharp. In playback, edge to edge all the way. Not much to adjust---just sat, bright, contrast. Has to be at perfect angle to see correctly. I use a Z-finder because I can't focus, even with glasses, on the Canon 3" LCD. With the Ikan, I can see it perfectly with glasses (too much computer work) and am much more confident in one day with my focus. I don't think I'll be taking this thing back! My American Express is going to take a little hit this month...

bump, sorry, need a somewhat quick response. Thanks guys.

This the hardest decision I've had when choosing camera monitor.

It should have:

HDMI input
Composite input/output
Run on small lightweight batteries lasting at least 2-3 hours
Tripod mount
Better resolution than the LCD on a 7D
Enough brightness to make it work even in daylight
Not to heavy
7" or smaller

SmallHD DP1 is a good enough monitor, it excels at focusing.

But, in general, it's not as bright as I thought and the colors are off for my taste. I had V5.5.6 installed. And the batteries it came with (I have the new batch) are usually depleted even after charging them. But I admit, they sent replacements and they have excellent customer service.

I wish Canon made a field monitor--so far the 7D display is outstanding, just a little too small--and the magnification button is a little too cumbersome for my shoots.

And although not a $1000 or less, but I was also of thinking of getting the HP Dreamcolor monitor with a minimatrox and battery supply hooked up to it. And somehow creating an enclosure for all of it.
