Best Harddrive for PC laptop to Mac Desktop transfers

Hello all,

I'm looking for a portable external harddrive which I can use to transfer mxf files from a pc laptop to a mac desktop.

I saw the following portable harddrives:

http://www.edgetechcorp.com/storage/quad-hard-drive.asp

and

http://review.zdnet.com/hard-drives/g-tech-g-drive/4505-3186_16-32795110.html?tag=ut

Are either of these good? Has anyone had any bad experiences with either?
The Disk Go! has a FAT 32 default file system, but I haven't heard of the brand.

The G-Tech G-Drive apparently doesn't work well with the PC and doesn't have FAT 32, but I can install my pc with MacDrive and transfer the footage via the FW400 port. Again, I haven't heard of this brand either.

Are there any other portable external harddrives out there that work well w/ both mac and pc? Should I focus on a harddrive with 7200 rpms?

I have Raylight so I just want to transfer the mxf files from pc to mac for native mxf editing on FCP.

Thanks for reading this:dankk2:

I've found, most of the portable USB drives come formatted as FAT32. I have a couple different brands I use to hold P2 files dumped onto my PC laptop in the field - then just plug the drive into my Mac Pro and copy across. I just make sure I have a backup somewhere else. I also use my home network/router system to transfer files.

4gb file limit not a problem because the P2 card protocol honors this by limiting all files to 4gb. that's why you can use a FAT32 drive as is on either PC or Mac.

Get a 7200 rpm drive eg Seagate Barracuda esata and throw it in an external case with multiple connectors eg Pleiades MacPower.

Format it for Mac and you are good to go (cross platform)

Beware of some external "BackUp' type drives ( some go to sleep/hibernate)

Thanks for the replies guys. Really appreciate it. Barry also put up another option also! Nice to have options.
