C100: Best hard drive for the Ninja 2?

Hey guys,

Atomos has listed a bunch of different harddrives that are available to use with their recorders, I was wondering what most people used and if there were some that tended to be faster/more reliable than others.

Was just looking at purchasing the SanDisk Ultra Plus solid state 240gb for the price and storage size, is this a suitable option or are there better ones out there?

The Sandisk Extreme Pro are probably the most widely used.

The Kingston HyperX 3k are good too.
 
I use a 480GB Sandisk Extreme Pro for my Blade. It went down on the third shoot I ever used it on, shooting a string of long interviews and in the middle of one interview, it just stopped recording. Sandisk wouldn't exchange it, saying reformat it, and it did reformat okay, they said the problem was with the Blade and Atomos wouldn't do anything, saying it sounded like a bad drive. I have since only rarely used it because I am paranoid that it will go down again, so I bought another brand that so far, is working perfectly. I don't want to throw a $500.00 drive away, but I can't trust it on client jobs, so it gets used for tests and shooting repeatable things that I could reshoot if it crashed. I am slowly learning to "trust again", but it was frustrating as hell to lose a whole shoot. Thank God I was also recording backup on the C100's SD cards, they saved my Bacon. It was green screen too but the material keyed okay after I converted the AVCHD for the client to Prores. I still much prefer the Blade for shooting green screen.

Take this for what it is worth, any brand of any drive can go down at anytime. I would buy name brand and buy from Atomos' list but don't delude yourself into thinking just because you bought the recommended drive that all will be rainbows and unicorns. I thought SSDs would be more reliable than spinning disk drives but I have two of 1TB Hitachi/Seagates and so far, neither has ever gone down, while my more expensive Sandisk SSD has. ALWAYS record to your cameras internal cards when using an Atomos or any other recorder.

I had some issues with the Sandisk Ultra Plus so i moved to the Sandisk Extreme Pro and its worked flawlessly! Prices are dropping so why not get the fasted etc for ProRes HQ recording :)

Argh, wished you had commented a week earlier as I went for the Sandisk ultra plus and it arrived today actually! Thanks anyway though - Toby.
