Best films ever?

This certainly isn't the most popular fest to date, but I'm predicting we will see some of the best films ever made for DVXuser. Base on grabs alone, there is going to be some serious, big-screen appeal in several of the entries.

Let's be honest, many (most?) short films feel like - short films. But every once in a while, one comes along that gives the audience that 'I-just-watched-a-feature' kinda feeling. Like that pleasant after-taste from really good wine that makes you want to open another bottle. And another.

Not that the 'I-just-watched-a-short-film' feeling is a bad thing. Some (many?) hit all the right notes, and it was completely satisfying. Like a good apéritif.

I think we are going to see more than the standard one or two zingers this fest.

I'm just sayin', is all.

i agree with you. although i didn't quite achieve the "scene from a real movie feel", i think the DSLR revolution is helping us achieve better white balance, better framing, better lens selection, more freedom and thus better short films.

I agree too (Alex)... but I (IMHO) don't think it matters what it was shot on (DSLR, DVX, HPX, RED or 8mm film). It seems that the nature of the theme gives that big-screen feel. I would think drama does the same thing.

Oh, read the title and wondered how you guys got an advance copy of my entry

I love westerns, so I'm very excited for this fest. Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!!

I'm excited too. As has been mentioned before, this has forced a lot of people - including us - outside of the comfort zone.

Be right back, I should probably upload our entry. :Drogar-Shock(DBG):

24 entries. Looking at some of the threads and knowing some of the teams behind them, I expect some kick ass entries. I bet I won't be disappointed.

That's good enough for me.

The low number makes me wonder what the second round of voting will be like? Maybe the top 3 will duke it out in the final round. Otherwise a third of the field will be scratching it out if they go with the usual top 7 or 8.

While there were some very good entries in this fest, I think the percentage of average and bad (okay, less than average) films was similar to previous fests...perhaps a little smaller because the percentage of good films was a bit higher on this one.

For the most part, the ones I thought were wanting were not as bad as some of the bad films in previous fests so I have a much harder time classifying them as bad.

I think the overall level of production seems to be climbing.

I agree Blaine. But one thing that really sticks out to me in this fest is story. Im seeing more quality overall in story. So whilst it may be clear that some have a slicker production, the quality of story is blurring the lines.

Yeah, Noel, for the most part the stories were much more complete. There weren't many leaving asking WTH did I just watch.
