Best FCP settings? Quick help needed

Hi all,

I have HMC150 footage (AVCHD 1920x1080/24p) to edit with Final cut Pro 6, using ProRes.

Need some quick help here:

What are the best audio/video settings?
1. Sequence preset?
2. Capture preset?
3. Video playback?

Should I use ProRes 422 (HQ) or just ProRes 422?

Thanks

ProRes 422 for 1080 and ProRes 422 (LT) for 720p if you want to save more space (otherwise use ProRes 422). Sequence setting of 1920x1080 or 1280x720.

Many thanks, just the answers I was hoping for. Great forum, by the way!

So my audio/video settings should be:
1. Sequence preset: Apple ProRes 422 1920x1080 24p 48kHz
2. Capture preset: HDV-Apple ProRes 422

Last question: Should I use ProRes 422 (HQ) or just ProRes 422? What makes my footage High Quality?

Not sure where you are seeing HDV in the capture settings. This camera is not HDV andyou don't need to go anywhere near HDV.

Just use normal ProRes 422. HQ will not do anything for you except eat hard disk space unless you are really piling on the effects and have a fast RAID to use.

My only capture options are: DV, DV50, DVCPRO, DVCPRO HD, Generic Capture Template or HDV. HDV-Apple ProRes 422 and HDV-Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) are the only ProRes options I have. Using FCP 6.0.6.

Capture Preset shouldnt matter because youre using Log and Transfer. Sequence should be Prores 422. Resolution should be 1920x1080 or 1280x720 and Frame rate should be 24p or 30p based on whatever you shot at
