Best Editing setup for My MacPro?

hello I am using FCP and have 6GB of ram
and I need help setting up the best editing station possible.

what is the best way to configure the hard drives, scratch disks ect...

I just returned from India with 70 hrs of footage and have it all on 2 HD's one 750GB and one 250GB.
those are currently occupying bays 3 and 4
in the first bay I have my OS and my apps ect...

the 2nd bay is the one that I have to play with so to speak.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.
or if someone has a link to a comprehensive article or post that would also be appreciated.

thank

I got it backed up in 3 places including DVD

what I am wondering is should I have one drive free for scratch (I think I heard that somewhere once) or is there a better way to optimize the station.

There's a lot involved in the term "scratch disk." If you used FCP to log and capture the media that's now on drives 3 and 4, then you already have your Capture Scratch set up there. Keep the media where it is. Your second drive, the one that's empty right now, should be set up for the rest of your scratch disk allocations: render files, etc. (anything not Capture Scratch). Keep all working media off your operating drive, and store only your project files there.

You should be setup just fine the way you are. I think the most important thing is to keep your OS and applications separate from video files. I am not sure what the best allocation for render files, conformed files, etc. I have them all on the same drive as my source video.

I have raw 24p DTE (FS-4) files shot with a DVX100a
I am a bit confused as to the best way to do this as I need access to all the files and they total about 1TB of info spanning 2 drives
from the research I have done it has been suggested to keep all the media on one drive and use that as your scratch ect... but as I have 4 bays would it make more sense to have a "empty" drive to use as scratch, render files ect.. (say bay 2 drive 2) and have the media loaded from bays 3, 4 and the app and OS on HD 1?

@C2V

I did not use FCP to capture and log the footage as it was shot on an FS4 drive I just so the FCP does not know the Data is there until I of course bring it in.

so with that said should I still leave the #2 drive relatively empty and use that as the scratch
or
should the scratch disks be with the media?
