Best editing program? Vegas, premiere

Ive said this a million times before, its like a stuck record. NLEs are like anything, some fit some and not others. You need to find a way to try them on.

For straight cut editing - theyre all equal. IMO though for simple compositing right in your NLE, FCP suits me best.

Wow! If that's the level of your discussion abilities, from a moderator no less, then I'll pass.

My thirty years in the business actually making a full-time buck, having used both PC and Mac...well, I'll take my opinion and move on.

Thats only because he's tired of saying the same thing with the same argument that pops up once every couple of days. I have my opinion as well, and yes lets move on. This thread was not started as a Mac vs. PC discussion. Vegas and Premier were asked about.

And NLEs are like women, you find one that turns you on, use it. (I hope my wife doesn't see this or I'm dead) :violent5: Ok ok bad analogy.

Perhaps you meant - NLE's are like women, everyone thinks theirs is the best. I say use whatever your budget allows and your workflow requires. I like cs3 for its fantastic MXF workflow and because I've used it for years so I'm comfortable. The same cuts in different NLE's will all produce the same movie.

wow..sorry not to be an ass but come on.. what best software to edit a feature on/with???????? who cares if you are editing a feature or music video or whatever, who cares if it goes into a festiva or its for your buddies or just dvd rlease..makes no difference whatsover. I'm glad that you are entering a festival/s -good luck and have fun. Ultimately your story will win over the audience and not what you used to edit. Most NLE's support 24p footage.

USe what you know, if you dont know anything try them all and find the best one that suits you.

I can edit a feature on movie maker if i have to, this debate is silly.. all these whats better is silly...

I just put that out there so people could advise my situation better with little info from my intel. More video to render then a 3 minute music video, so time could be taken into account. I beleive both programs are the same speed, not sure. Thats why its out there. Not all things are created equal, and if Vegas is, or sounds like its a little better. But if they are pretty much the same, Vegas is $100 cheaper (the bundles).

So the verdict is dum da da daaa... "Vegas"

mind you I didn't consider FCP cause I dont have a mac. so no more mac vs. pc stuff heh.

thanks for the help, Curtis

"Pass" what?

I perfectly well accept that you prefer a Mac over a PC, and that's your prerogative. Use what you like. But, as someone who also makes a "full-time buck" and uses both, that's not the same as accepting a blanket "Mac RULEZ!" and a statement that simply working on a Mac makes your "video quality" better. Your OS doesn't make your pictures any prettier. Your talent and your skill do that.

And especially when it's brought up in a thread where someone's asking about the difference between two Windows apps, it's a mantra which gets a bit tired.

I did some Mac bashing a while back and never realized what fanatics Mac people are... I've laid off since then. Mac people would probably jump in front of a moving bus to save a Mac. I was given a Mac laptop to use at work (well, not given, but for me to use), one of the newer ones I guess, I absolutely hated it. I would never use a Mac again.

Now, we don't need to get into bashing Mac users -- people use what they like, and someone using something different doesn't hurt or affect anyone else. The idea that Macs are somehow better, in general, for video (or photographic) work is FUD., but people use them and love them and that's great for them. Let's leave it at that.

i would encourage everyone to get off this mac vs. pc trip... no more calling each other's kool-aid "asinine". because the truth is, our preferences are almost singularly defined by which piece of sh*t, "test it on the consumer" operating system we sat in front of first. anyone would defend the thing they invested a great deal of time troubleshooting and finding workarounds for -- regardless of how well it works. same applies to NLEs.

if you want an answer to this question, Curtis, you'll need to know what you want to accomplish and demo both.... yourself.

It's a reasonable point, but I don't know that it's universally true. People probably do a little more searching than you might think.

Perhaps you meant - NLE's are like women, everyone thinks their's is the best...

More like... NLEs are like women - you think that new, smoking-hot one over there is better than the one you've got, who you unceremoniously dump, only to find out that the new girl isn't so special and has more "issues" than the one you left behind.

That's been my experience... with NLEs anyway!

Yeah baby, yeah!

funny thing is back in the day when i started editing... granted the whole "forum" thang wasnt round...but i tested out few softwares before i went with what i'm using now. In my case i dont think asking anyone would have made my decision for me, i still would have tested out the necessary before sticking to something.
