Best DSLR Rig comparison ever!

Although the creator of the chart is obviously biased against certain suppliers, the suggestions are not without merit. I just don't think their guideline of mandatory shoulder support matters for my particular shooting style.

I shoot a lot of run and gun, and a shoulder hook would just get in the way in really tight areas, inside of a moving vehicle, or getting in and out of a car multiple times a day. I use a tripod for long stationary shots and rent or borrow a glide cam for shoots with lots of continual movement.

I think they overemphasize the importance of built-in follow focus and matte box (most people buy these separately, don't they?) Still it's a nice resource to look over.

I think the ratings numbers should maybe be done differently, because a 50 rating looks a lot worse than it is. Why do the cpm rigs only get half-points for being balanced? I'm planning to buy the CPM Flyer next month, unless those Korean Gini rigs woo me over.

If anyone is looking to buy a handy rig, though, they are 20% off for the next day, according to their website. http://www.handyfilmtools.com

Needless to say, I have no connection to them, just thought some people might want to catch a deal on their rig.

Thanks to my blog, I have had the opportunity to test a lot of rigs (20+) and my experience says that while there is some serious efforts behind this chart, it is strongly flawed. It could be used as a guide line to do the initial screening but even then, you need more details to make a pre selection.

Regarding the Turkey thing. As funny as it looks, I am from Canada one of my fav rig is... from Canada! ;-)

Finally, while I think the price of rigs is often wayy over priced, I can tell you one thing: machining aluminium or steel costs a lot! I had some parts custom CNC and it costed me more than 100$ for something that really looks like 10$ worth.

That being said, I started a new site dedicated to rigs, DIY or commercial ones. Would be great if you guys post your rigs.
