Best DSLR Rig comparison ever!

Hello guys,

http://www.dslrrigcomparison.com/?p=8 has a badass DSLR rig comparison chart.

I've been reading a lot before I have ordered my rig few days ago. A friend of mine suggested me to see this PDF on a web-site. I felt bad that I already had my rig ordered, therefore according to the comparison, I guess I did a good choice :)

Anyways, this is what the PDF looks like:

Hope this will help you out, and save you sometime, because I have spent almost two weeks before coming to a decision. :S

That's a great looking chart, really gets in depth. Still though, IMHO I would never purchase a rig without feeling it with similar gear as I plan on shooting with it.

I disagree with a lot of that chart....I really think the indisystem rigs are junk (I own one) and I don't see how they can come recommended, even for the price.

I agree with Indisystem rigs being a junk.

But the chart also clearly showed that to me. All those yellow stars together. Red line among product score too.

I'd never get anywhere close to that rig. lol. I think they just offered it as an amateur solution mate.

Ya these charts are usually biased for some reason or another and when that isn't the case it can be just personal taste. The only thing this chart really shows is the price line and which are expensive and which are not. Clearly the Handy so called "pro" is cheaper then the Cinevate/Zacuto/Redrock ... I just find it hard to believe its better. It doesnt even have a follow focus as part of the comparable package?
I will say though it probably took some time to put the chart together I imagine, so cheers to that for sure.

When I first saw the list I thought "Interesting where is the contact information I would like to submit our information to the list". Quickly found out, no contact information. So I did some more looking. Now this is what I did find, just putting it out there. You guys are better then I am at this stuff. It was not until Chris mentioned "Dubious" that I though maybe I was not crazy. The "who is" search came up with reg2c.com as the web host, location Turkey. Handy Filmtools came out with real nice scores. Location.... Turkey. I could be completely wrong, if I am I apologize one thousand times. But the proliferation of this list in several locations..... If its advertisement pretending to be a legitimate comparison? That’s just not right. I have no pony in this race as our rigs are not listed, but others might not be too happy. I’m just wanting you guys to give me a reality check.

I don't know man, I am much of a reader around, but I wanted to share after spending so much time reading stuff online.

I don't know If i mentioned but I have purchased my rig just before seeing this chart, and made me instanly happy that I havent picked something from indysystems.

every manufacturer seems to have pros and cons, I thought it should be fair. Especially about customer service regulations. I have read some horror stories about those so-called giant manufacturers, and some good stories about companies like vocas.

This chart simply supports what I've been reading around. This is why I wanted to share.

By the way I haven't seen or read about CPM products before this forum. By the looks of it the rigs look very interesting, I'd be interested and asked you more about your rigs if I havent purchased one. I don't understand why CPM is not on this comparison chart, it's definitely better than indystuff.

Respect to all of you.

I too thought it might have been some sort of biased, but I have not tried (or really heard too much about) Handy films until now, so I'd be curious to take a feel. And incase you haven't checked back, there was an update today, and looks like your full line of stuff is on there now! The only problem I have is before this, I thought it was possible that he may have actually at least seen all these rigs in person, but now I have my doubts.

Well if it looks, sounds and acts like a duck... it's usually a duck. With that said, the duck added you to the comparison yesterday. I guess it received your rig overnight and tested it like the others...

LOL...now that's funny.

I just received my CPM rig...and I can tell u after 3 days of using it its quality stuff. I was going to use it on a shoot I had this weekend but that got postponed cuz of weather.

Oh I believe you... the CPM stuff looks very nice and has some good user reviews around here.

anyway most of these rigs are a scam.
$3000 for few bent aluminium plate, tubes and screws....!
they must be gold plated (inside) at least.
i build my rigs mysefl, it is fun and it rarely cost me more than $100.

unfortunately this is the cheapest you could ever make your rig for... you start mass producing it with proper materials and aesthetic, suddenly costs start to rise quickly. If it's a looker, light and strong with multi configurable parts compatible with different 3rd party accessories, then its going to cost even more. Your $100 rig suddenly costs $200-400 to make. Any custom machined or molded parts ? Lets add some more then. This is all with no money for the work you put into it and all because you have fun doing it, thankfully.

If your willing to make a $100 rig on the level of the Zacuto, Cinevate etc ones and mass produce it, test it and stand behind it, I would hire you in a second ( as long as its looks ,works and feels great ). As your distributor, I'll Mark it up to $300 no lets say $500 and make a cozy profit. I'll pay you the $100 for each since you seem to thinks that's what they are worth and you like doing it. Sound fair... Are you in?

Now that... would be a scam.

But seriously if you have some photos of your rig, it would be great to see them as I currently, if $100 is all it takes, have been scammed too.

Sadly, that IS true, I'm sure. The markup I'd gather, is astronomical for some of the DSLR rigs. Which is partly why I built my rig from various parts from various vendors. The worst part of the premade rigs in my opinion is the design. IF they were sensibly designed, then I could see (maybe) paying a grand or two for one. Paying 3 or 4 grand for a DSLR rig is just not sensible.

I just added up all the costs for the pieces that went into my rig and without shipping and the few extra odd pieces of hardware, it comes to just over a grand. With the extra hardware items, and shipping, the total is probably around $1,500. for something that works and doesn't look like a 4th grade science experiment.

You can mount a monitor on it. It has a hard stop for the L series zooms I use. It's balanced. And you can handhold it and mount it with no change to the rig.

The beauty of the DSLR rig kit parts is it's all mostly interchangeable since it all works with the industry standard 15mm iris rods.
