Best D-Tap to AF100 cable

Does anyone have any quality recommendations for a cable to power my AF100 off a V-Mount plate with D-Tap?

Edit: I eventually made a solution. I posted pictures on page 4.

I would like to know this as well, also how are you making sure the right power is going to the camera?

Are you using the battery adapter that is for the AC/DC charger?

Here's the D Tap for the HMC150. Both cams are 7.2VDC, so it should work. $85 at B&H.

A friend of mine, Kevin wrote the only review of that on the B&H website. I just called him to get the details. If and only if your battery plate has a 7.2 voltage D-Tap on it can this be used. Most battery plates with D-Taps are 12 volt, and if you plugged this into 12 volt you would fry your AF100. My battery plate only has a 12 volt D-Tap so this won't work for me.

I use IDX's 7.2v adapter, with the IDX plate that has a 5/7.2v switchable output. Works well, but you have to be careful if others use your rig.

I was wondering about that. Anyone who has this setup please chime in. I'm in process now with powering a rig with AB gold mounts. This tread is good timing.

Stephen could you please add some links? Would the IDX adapter work with AB gold mount batteries?

You would think that someone would/could be able to have the circuitry to drop the voltage down from 12 volts to 7.2 volts inside a "fake" battery so the cable doesn't have a box hanging off it like the Switronix one does. I had an idea once a while back of making a box the size of a AF100's battery mounted where the battery mounts and it would have a 12 volt XLR port on it. Someone needs to come up with such a thing.

Crucial info that I left out Brian, thanks!

I have an AB plate I used with my DVX and Ultralight years ago, then with my HPX170.
It's 7.2v, so yes, AB has them, and I'm not sure, but it's possible this is AB's only 7.2v one.
It comes with the DVX/HVX/HPX adapter, so you'd have to cut it off and splice the one from the HMC on.

There are adapters out there that do this. Contact me direct and I can advice you if you don't mind doing a little soldering. If you are handy you can use the paddle that came with the AF100 charger.

I am currently experimenting with a couple different voltage reducers, building my own cables.

I use AB plate with the built in adapter but it is pricey. Or I use the IDX plates with the 5v or 7.4v switchable D-tap outlet, it also has a 12-16.8v tap, this could be confusing. But I have tried the high voltage into the AF100 and if you do then the AF100 does not start up. It just says check power or something similar. Don't try this yourself.

Why not just use the AB plate made for the AF100?

We make a 12-14V/7.2 voltage converter with a power indicator built in, first used with the venerable DVX100 cameras. It is a modular solution, you connect any 14V battery to the input of the converter (we offer several cables - D-Tap, car power, XLR4), while the output is connected to the camera (AF100) using the paddle cable that comes with the camera. The original converter had an XLR4 and a 2.1mm input power option. The current model comes in two flavors: a standard size with both kinds of input connections and the low profile with a 2.1mm jack only. Btw the reason nobody makes a decent dummy battery size regulator is probably it is technically hard to make such a small device for the required 15W power, and make it run cool and efficient, cheap and reliable. 15W is a lot of power for a small size with limited ventilation in a plastic box. Also, most of the solutions do not offer the benefit of knowing when your 14V battery needs recharging. Our converter has a smart state of charge LED indicator built in.

Apparently no one looks at my signature. Been there / had one for months.

I power the AF100 from the QR-VBG, and accessories (like the Zacuto EVF) via D-Tap.

Any questions, let me know.

Intresting. So all you would need is the right plug that fits in the 7.2 output which is?

when i bought my AF101 there was battery, but also a cord with small box on 1 end that looks like a small battery - its for power the cam with regular 220/110 v, so as i understand its is what i can use with the unit i shown (i think its lanparte). 1 end will go into 7.2 volt hole 2nd with the box will go there where battery should be.

plus with that unit u also get HDMI splitter, all different voltage so u can power monitors, transmitters, splitters, external recorders.... , usb to power usb devices. and u dont need to buy a separate V/gold mount charger in order to charge your V/ gold mount Battery, as the unit comes with the charger that connects to the unit and will charge your battery

unit also comes with V mount or with Golden mount - so u can choose

so i think its preaty cool for the money, -

i ve seen a review here from an owner of sony fs100 - he told it works perfect and he even got 2nd unit later......probably for 2nd cam
