Best compression for Myspace

What are the best compression settings to post a video on myspace?
5 minute short. Shot with a DVX in 30p. 30p timeline. Editing in FPC 6. Using Compressor.
I've uploaded before but never can get anything I am satisfied with. Tips?

Go with the least compression you can. I don't know of Myspace has file size restrictions, but remember that their servers are most likely going to re-compress the video, much like YouTube and Myspace do.

Check for a file size limit, and set Compressor to hit as close to that limit as you can.

This is the best form of compression I used...

Description: MPEG-4 video at 1,000 Kbps with 32kHz audio
File Extension: mp4
Estimated file size: 439.78 MB/hour of source
Audio Encoder
Format: MPEG4
Sample Rate: auto
Channels: 2
Bits Per Sample: 16
AAC encoder quality: medium
Data rate: 96 Kbps
Video Encoder
Format: MPEG4
Width: 320
Height: 240
Pixel aspect ratio: Square
Crop: None
Padding: None
Frame rate: 30
Frame Controls: Automatically selected: Off
ISMA Profile: 0
Constant bit rate: 1000 (Kbps)
Hinted for streaming server with
packet size: 1450 bytes
and packet duration: 100 milliseconds
Enhanced Podcast: Off

The colors were all muted, and the audio didn't sound nearly as crisp as it should. I know that myspace's compression is going to downgrade it some but I have seen other videos on youtube and myspace that look much better then what I have been able to post.

Okay, so your audio suffers because you've squashed the life out of it. Audio takes much less bandwidth than video and doesn't need as much compression. Why did you drop it to 32kHz? And as far as MP3/AAC compression, anything below 128kbps is going to be pretty nasty... especially if it has to go through another round of compression.

You need to set your audio at 44.1kHz, 128kbps AAC stereo.

As for video, h.264 is much more efficient than MPEG-4 when it comes to Internet distribution. Use h.264 and limit your data rate to no less than 3000kbps. For Vimeo, I limit it to 6000 unless I'm doing an uprez of DVX footage to HD frame size, then I drop it down to about 3000kbps. But that's just to keep the file size within my weekly Vimeo upload limit. I'm also using full-frame dimensions (720x480, or 854x480 for 16:9 from "squeeze" footage). So you might be able to bump up the data rate limit since you're using a smaller frame. And keep your frame rate at 30, or same as source.

And set quality to "high" and encoding to "best quality (multi pass)."

Hey C2V,
We uploaded our video to myspace last month, with lots of problems. The sound and video got unsynced[not our fault-our file was perfect.] Worse part was it was for a video contest and we couldn't fix it becuase of the deadline.
Luckily, our video was good enough that it got in the finals even with the error and we were allowed to reupload. Since then, I have done tests for both myspace and youtube. The results might suprise you. I feel like hands down quicktime is the best. Yes, it is a little clunky to start comparied with h.214 or other compressions but the quicktime videos don't seem to get recompressed! And they also have less uploading errors. With other compressions I'll upload the same file 3 times and one of those times will have issues while the other two will be fine. Not what I call a great ratio.
I have been reading a bit about compression trends and this all may change soon, as MPEG4 is becoming the new standard. I look forward to that day. Right now though, I'm sticking with QT.

Anyways, just wanted to give an update on that. Thanks a lot for the help. The compression standards you gave me were good. It looked amazing on my friends 42 inch plasma display! Myspace video just sucks. A-LOT. As a footnote I suggest no one ever use myspace video unless they have to.
