GH4 Best Cage for the GH4 with locking device for it's HDMI connector.

And the flash does not open... but other than those things its great. My hands are not too big and I can still easily hold it with my right hand
and keep my left on the focus. It is one solid piece - so super strong. Battery, SD card and other ports all easy to get to. I loaded it up with
Rode mic, wireless receiver, Small HD and tripod plate and still have plenty of room for more.

I only have the cage so can't speak to the cold shoe mounts, HDMI lock or top handle.

Also All I've done so far is play for a few minutes in my office. I'm taking it out for a real work situation this weekend so I'll see how it performs
under fire - but I'll also be testing my new shoulder rig (swissrod with an Israeli arm holding a quickrelease on one end and a gunstock on the other)
so we'll see.

Looks like we got a new player... an email arrived when I got home and this looks to be a very well thought out system, and yes I mean system, looks to tick all the boxes, good access to the GH4 handle, cable clamps x 3!!... rods on riser, handle and aux battery?

Check it out: http://motionnine.com/portfolio/cube-cage-gh4gh3/

Others may have heard of the company, but for me it's a newby.

One thing is becoming very apparent, the Koreans are becoming significant players with accessories and their engineering, from every thing I have seen, is damn good

Has anyone used this cage?

Pre-Ordered the Viewfactor cage and had it now for maybe 2 weeks, flash goes up no problem, I did make a special TRRS to TRS cable for the Juicedlink and shaved down the sides of the plastic to fit the hole for audio input. I will probably make a few more variations of this cable as time goes by. Being new to DSLR cages, I do like it's small, tight fit, and will customize as needed.

I'll play. I feel the Varavon GH4 cage is handsdown the best. Best features, best function, great quality, and reasonably priced. You get a top handle, side grip, HDMI lock, and still access all the buttons and can still use the full range of the LCD. Love mine.

The varavon hasn't been out that long but there appears to be a knock-off already!!

nice to see they copy themselves

(sorry, couldn't help it)

So.. I bought one

it seems pretty good, solid & I can get to all the controls.

it looks very similar to the Varavon so I'm assuming they both have the same problems:
you can't use the viewfinder with the handle on (I actually mounted mine side on to get past this) or maybe my head's too big
the cable lock for the mike is next to useless
the HDMI cable lock is pretty much the same
you can mount a quick release plate under the cage but it's off centre so there's no chance of mounting rails

Is anyone using the Walimex Pro? Caleb Pike on dslrvideoshooter.com is using one with his A7S and compares it to Wooden Camera's cage in his video review. He seems to like it a lot, it's cheaper than WC, allows you to use the GH's hand grip, and it's height adjustable.

I like the Varavon cage most of all due to it's access to the LCD screen, buttons, and hand strap. But that cable lock looks wonky.

I like the cable lock on the Viewfactor the best so far. I wonder if it would work on the Varavon cage. Anyone have both of these and can try it?

By any chance did you order an HDMi clamp as well? I received my order on 8/7 (Contineo Cage, Multiforce Clamp, Riser, etc.) and got everything but my HDMI clamp and am curious to see if anyone else has received theirs.

I've been looking and debating what cage I should go with for ages, after looking
and looking I've decided the Zacuto Half Cage offers the best combination of features and
function, and should allow my rig to grow should I ever decide to change my camera set-up.
It's a bit more expensive than the others (not very much) and a bit bigger when you add in
the baseball and handle, but I can pick them up pretty easily second hand, and I don't need to use them every time.
I use a Beachtek unit under the GH4 and is (for me) the only way to guarantee
decent audio and control. When you add in an external mic and maybe a led light, the
run and gun rig suddenly becomes difficult to manage.
With the Zacuto I can strip it back as much as I need and still use it on sticks or
a monopod.

I've just switched to the Honu v2. The HDMI clamp is solid. Only negative with this cage is accessing the top controls (wb, exp. etc.) is a bit inconvenient (as is seeing the dial.) The double attachment method is super solid, the three cold shoe mounts are very convenient, and the rails adapter is great (adjustable.) I added a QR plate and a handle and basically my GH4 is never going to leave this guy.

Actually makes for a fairly clean, compact rig. Notice how I use the HDMI clamp to lock in a micro HDMI adapter rather than straight into a cable. I've found that not only is this more convenient (it's much easier to find full size HDMI cables of any length) but it's more secure and better protects that fragile little port on the camera.

What audio cable are you using to connect the JuicedLink preamp to your GH4 ?

It's just the one that came with it. I think they sell them separately, as well. I can't say enough good things about the Riggy Micro. It is so clean and more than powerful enough to juice even quiet mics like the Rode NTG-2. One of my favorite pieces of kit.
