Well you do have a point about IS and other advanced features on your newer automatic lenses. There is a time and a place for being able to throw your camera up on a stedicam and fly it around with a nice wide lens on there. I however am a bit more enthusiastic about shots like these shot through this
And with the new GH2 hacks you can enable 1440x1080, which when stretched gives you a 2.31 anamorphic, where as our 1920x1080 when stretched using an anamorphic will be too wide. that mixed with better AVCHD compression at 42Mbit makes this a very versitile tool.
Now all this being said it depends on what your doing. Shooting a wedding then i am COMPLETELY wrong, grab another t2i, use any left over money to get yourself a 24-70 f/2.8. Shooting music videos, or dramas or anything cinematic where you have more creative license to use these other tools then this is a good opportunity to diversify.
Sadly for me I am doing mostly industrial type work and instructional stuff so i match my t2i with 4 hv30's that have been around this office for far too long.
Audio is another issue that i never addressed. I use one of 3 solutions for audio
1) for total bare-bones shoots then i just use the onboard t2i audio
2) when time/budget/crew allows i use a h1 with a beachtek xlr to 1/8th adapter.
3) for larger multicam shoots i use a true mixer, then i send 1 stereo track to a b camera (hv30 running dv tapes for an hour at a time, sometimes ill send it to 2 cameras if possible) and then also to the h1 that the audio person will operate. syncing isn't actually that hard as long as i use a clap to start off each take, giving me a good audio spike to see.
Just my 2 cents. Sadly i have no budget for new cameras around here so its a little bit moot.
