Welp... my old mac laptop bit the big one the other day and I have no plans of getting another one.
I have a client that needs to go through a LOT of raw footage.... and tell me what they want to use.... I gave them a portable hard drive with hours and hours of stuff native avchd....
I thought VLC was the answer. It's free.. it plays avchd on the mac..... BUT (and this is a big but... like baby got back sized but) apparently there is a bug and there is no time code, which is useless because I need the client to give me time codes of clips they like.
What else will play native gh13 / gh2 avchd files while displaying time..... It blows my mind that mac still doesn't just do this out of the box and it's supposed to be a world class editing machine. AVCHD isn't just some odd format anymore it's everywhere.
Someone mentioned toast... but it's 80 bucks... seems a but ridiculous just to be able to watch clips when vlc does it for free.. but I need time code. Does toast show timecode on the mac while playing native .mts files?
Help obi mac users... you're my only hope.
And don't tell me to transcode to prores or I'll throw a wet sponge at you. This is a novice client who just happens to be all mac.
