I need a 135mm for wedding and I prefer it to be old and manual. I was going to ask in Canon's forum but I know gh2 users like manual lenses so that's why I'm asking here instead. It's for my t2i

nikkor 135 is legendary it kills brand new glass unfortunatly i dont have the spare cash right now (have the 28 50 and 105 nikkors next will be 135 and 35 i guess and some time 85? :) )

We have all seen threads like this before. They are not as helpful to those who use lenses as they might appear. The following principles may be useful to the OP and others seeking perfection!

variations occur in respect of all mass produced items, expensively made lenses are no exception

Russian lenses are renowned for such variations, even in build quality

likewise DDR East German lenses, to a lesser degree,

the worst example of which is the Domiplan 50mm 2.8

one lens of the same type will produce slightly different results from another

Older lenses are made to better specifications

using better materials, metal and all glass elements, unlike modern lenses which contain plastic which can be warped by heat and impact

to older less complex designs, so contain more imperfections

some of which make a shot magical

allow manual focus and iris control

are cheap

plentiful

heavy, although some designs are lighter they can rip off a mounting ring, if wielded unwisely, or so it is claimed

the older the lens, the more dust, spores, fungus and grease/oil wander around the lens, no matter what the vendor says

may be uncoated, single coated or have damaged coating

if of complex design will have more faults than the less complex designs, usually, therefore,

macro

fast

mean weightier, faultier lenses

may be radioactive

Ultimately, there are subjective factors at work, as some photographers prefer sharpness, others do not tolerate flare etc.

It takes quite a while to evaluate any lens, unless it can be ruled out immediately!

Any acceptable lens is acceptable! Use it and master it. The differences in the lens will make no difference to the results, except that more practiced users will get better results from every lens they use.

This is not meant to criticize those who search for perfection, but to free those who wish to make movies and take shots!

Canon F2 FD lens - got mine for $260 on ebay but usually goes for $100 higher give or take. Sharp wide open but will lose contrast. GORGEOUS at 2.8.
