best 12x12 frame?

There are some many options... All i need is the corners and the ears. I'll provide my own aluminum square 1" frame. Any recommendations? The other day i saw those corners that also have support plate going across the corner... Any idea who makes those?

Modern Studio Equipment, however, I do make my own. You will need to be able to weld then just buy the next oversize tubing.

Check out barndoorlighting in CT to get the American Grip corners and sliders http://www.filmandvideolighting.com/12ovfrandfa.html

I ordered square corners for an 8ft frame from Barndoorlighting who gets it shipped direct from CA. The shipping for the corners was around $26. I bought the aluminum tube online from a place in Kentucky and saved $100 on shipping. No kidding. They shipped those 4 8ft. pieces for less than $10. That was 3/4" not 1" but it's a good way to save on the rails.

Patryk,

As your in the city, have you considered breakdown frames instead? You'd need different ears than I suggested, & also a pair of frame sleeves, but it would be smaller to store/transport, & could be built as a 12', or 6'. Actually two 6x6, but that would require extra corners, & ears.

If you use Modern's ears, & sleeves, your frames will be just as strong as a traditional 12x12 frame.

I used to use 1" breakdown 12x12, & 8x8, frames regularly, & really liked the flexibility. Often built 4x8 frames, & snot taped diffusion to them.

Have you checked out this DIY frame? I just built one and split the shipping cost with a friend who also wanted a few frames. http://www.ryanewalters.com/Blog/blog.php?id=3751543960123603911

In the video Ryan mentions getting the square tubing on ebay from a company called 80/20 inc but it doesn't look like they have any for sale.

Any ideas where I can get this in Canada? What size was the aluminum tubing? 1" ? Where else can you buy those 90 degree right angle plastic connectors? I really need a few 4x4's right now.

Saw Cardellini's breakdown 12x frame last week and it was pretty amazing. You can keep the frame skinned, take off the ears and collapse the thing down into one piece. It's a little more specialty, but it's a pretty interesting concept.

I have 2 MSE sets, then replace the little knobs with T-Handles so you don't have to use hex screws. And bought the 1" aluminum square tube via ebay, the tubing cost be around 180$ with shipping.

For plastic tubing and connectors, these guys have all kinds of stuff - would be easy to build frames with their products. I don't know that I'd use plastic for a reflector frame, but I've considered making some sort of bag light frames with the plastic stuff.

Any decent sized city should have a metals supplier that stocks square and round aluminum tube to fit the various corner sets out there. It's pretty common stuff - if you can buy it local you can get long sizes, 8', 12', etc. It's really pretty cheap.

Ok will search around. And what you recommend for some skin? Ryan Walters recommends modernstudios.com
