Being able to use FCP effects with clips

I just directed my 2nd music video with the Canon 7D and loved what I got, but I'm trying to get more out of it. To be able to work with it, I put the clips through mpeg clipstream and set it to Apple ProRes 422, the lower setting. The clips play and edit fine but there a lot of effects in FCP I wanna use to supplement my footage (especially since I need to add in a lot of grain for the look).

My computer's a couple years old and it says that my current graphics card won't support it due to the size and such of the clips. My camera has been fine with Red footage and other big cameras, and since it's a Mac, I don't think I can change the graphics card nor do I for this video. My DP recommended re-converting it through Apple DVCPro but it just made the clips weird and full of flaws and bugs. (Like have most of the image be a blank green screen and the shot would be in a top left corner).

So anyways, I need to re-export my clips through a setting with the resolution intact but still be able to use various Final Cut Pro effects. Any suggestions?

First and foremost I think you should post your computers specs see we can be more informed. Second you should switch your effects to render in 8-bit, this should fix your problems so you can add whatever effects you want on your pro res footage.

My specs are below. Let me know if you need more info:

iMac5, 1
Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB memory,
2.16 GHz Processor Speed
667 MHz (Bus speed)

Also, how do you render in 8 bit? I've never heard that specific phrase before

Go into your FCP settings and switch your effects to render in 8 bit, by default it is 10 bit. THis should fix your problem

Where in FCP do I find that setting to change it? I haven't been able to find it while searching around yet

Right Click your "Sequence" inside of the window where you have all of your video clips, a pop up menu will show. Scroll down to where it says settings, this will open up another window.

Tab over to "Video Processing" and you will see it there.
