Is this possible?
taking photos and selling them online in stock websites while developing my need as a filmmaker?

because i feel like if i take on photography, ill forget about filmmkaing which, for some reason, will make me feel like crap because i like filmmaking...
if that makes sense..

so is it possible to be a photographer and a filmmaker at the same time while having fun with your career as a filmmaker?

Absolutely. The best example of this is Roger Deakins, ASC/BSC. As he was growing up, he was a photographer. Once he realized that he was pretty good at it, he applied to the MA program at the National Film and Television School to learn how to apply his photography skills to filmmaking, and and now years later, he's one of the best living cinematographers.

If you read some of his interviews, he still maintains that his favorite thing to do is take photographs. After all his success as a cinematographer, he still thinks of himself as primarily a photographer.

Sure. You might do one more than the other but no reason you can't find some time for both.

I worked as a retoucher for Digital Vision / Getty Images when I was living in London. A common work practice is to brainstorm a concept (eg 'business meeting in asia') then they send out their staff art directors with a freelance photographer, hired models and shoot the concept. So don't be afraid to contact the online stock companies (like corbis, getty, jupiter, etc) directly as you may have more chance of work than just taking pictures and sending it to them in the hope they buy.

lol the downside to what you said [J Davis] is that im only 16, i doubt theyll accept me unless you correct me otherwise

Some places have a photography AND film making program.
I know Virginia Commonwealth University has such a program.
It is one of the few places to get a degree relating to film making.

Google 'Joey L'. He's pretty inspiring as one of the top commerical photographers in the world....just turned 19. His real goal though, is to become a film director.

Makes me feel old at 23 :embarasse

Yeah, Joey is definitely an inspiring guy. He's pretty good when it comes to film too - I have some footage of a short film we worked on for a film challenge a couple years ago. It's more or less applying the photographic techniques to film. He also has a couple music videos online I believe.
