I have shot a number of short projects with a Panasonic DVX100A which I have edited using Pinnacle 14. Routinely I export them to DVD. Yesterday I tried to export the edited video from the laptop back on to DV tape in the camera. I followed the instructions in the manual but could get no result. Please could someone give me step by step instructions, in case I have missed something. Thanks. peterh

You followed the instructions in which manual?

What exactly did you do, and what error did you get?

Hello David, thanks for replying so quickly.

I followed the instructions about exporting to tape in the make movie window of Pinnacle 14 and the instructions in the DVX100A manual about inputting/outputting from digital components. I connected the laptop to the camera using an IEEE 1394, the cable I use for importing video to the laptop. When I pressed the double VCRREC buttons on the camera the tape turned in the camera but didn't record the project.

I tried pressing the play button on the laptop screen and the start thing on the timeline, but still nothing. It seemed as if the camera and the laptop weren't connected, but they were.

I should be grateful for any help/advice you could offer.

Best wishes. peterh

Actually, a print-to-tape function usually controls the deck (the camera) from the software, so you shouldn't have to press anything on the camera; Pinnacle should do that.

Is there any option in the software about allowing the software to control the deck? There usually is.

Dear Victor, thanks for that.

In reply to your question....... I have made a number of (very short, 4-5mins) films which I have exported to DVD. Currently I am putting together a film which may be 40-45 minutes long and I was thinking of ways of backing up the project.

I guess there must be better ways of backing it up than sending it to tape, but I don't know what they are.

I should be grateful for you advice.

Best wishes. peterh

You might be able to fit the project and clips on a dual-layer DVD (as data, not video). You definitely could fit it on a Blu-ray (again, as data, not video). Either would be better than tape.

Silly, basic question, but... is the camera set to VTR mode instead of camera mode, and is the external in set to FireWire?
