beginner question, help, how to offload my sdhc card safely.

this is my first time editing my footage with this camera so thats why the question is lame:
if 4 sdhc cards full of footage from a wedding i shot, i want to dump my footage off of these cards and edit them later in fcp7.... any ways, can i take my footage from my sdhc card and when i see the :|"private folder" on my desk top, can i simply drag it to another folder i already have pre named on my scratch disk, and off load the card and then re use that card in my camera again after i reformat it. thanks
 
yes.

just be sure that if you are copying the cards over to the same location, that you change the name of each folder. otherwise, you risk overwriting the first one.

renaming the parent/top-level folder that is present on the card once its on your harddrive will not hurt anything.
