I was wondering if anyone has ever found the bearings for a gimbal in a hardware store or automotive store. I hate waiting for online orders. I searched the forum, and didn't really find anything. so I thought I would throw this out there.
Over here in germany I found them in a special tool shop. They sell all kind of good quality tools. Like chain saws, special drills etc. and they repair stuff for you or sharpen blades for you mawn lower. And they sell bearings
You might look for such a tool shop, not a normal hardware store.
I get mine at hardware stores like ACE Hardware. They have a decent selection but it can get expensive fast. If i remember correct I paid $7.00 for each bearing. Its really going to depend on the size though.
If you need some generic bearings the best deal by far is to go to a sports store like Academy and buy some rollerblade wheels. They come with a ton of bearings and its pretty cheap. You get some free wheels out of it too
They would be too small for a gimbal... but they are perfect if your building an arm.
I would get the phone book and try other hardware stores... Anybody that has a good selection of items will probably have them. Home Depot probably wont have them but try Lowes.
Forget about automotive stores. Unless they carry parts for go karts there is nothing in a car that would be useful to you.
Home Depot definitely does NOT have the gimbals nor does Lowes. Home Depot didn't even know what I was talking about. The closest you can come in Home Depot is perhaps a wheel barrow bearing... if you're lucky.
McMaster Carr delivers very quickly, sometimes within the next day, if there's one nearby.
