GH4 Beachtek DXA-SLR upgrade question

Thanks for the help. This is the reply I got back from beachtek:

Hi Brandon,

Thanks for writing!

We have not tested the old DXA-SLR with the GH4. This adapter has far less powerful preamps so you may have to increase the gain of the camera a bit higher. You should still keep the limiter on. Keep the AGC DSBL switch on the adapter to the left so it is not being used.

Odd that you would use such an old adapter with a shiny new DSLR!

Regards,

For the price difference, is it worth the upgrade? What level on the GH4 are you using with the old DXA-SLR by chance? Thanks again for the reply.

With the new one I have mine set up at -6 on camera, limiter off, and monitor the recording off the camera and keep the levels in the top third on the camera. Works great with all the different mic set ups that I use. NTG2 on a boom pole and Senni wireless lavs.

With the old one it depends on the mics.

As far as using a limiter here goes, might be worth doing some stress tests between the one in Beachtek vs built in limiter in GH4 (menu selectable). Of course, if the GH4 inputs are prone to overload, need to manage level prior. If sufficient headroom at camera preamps, built in limiter "might" be more fail-safe regarding recording level.
