Beach Timelapse

If you visit my website, on the very first page you will see a picture of a sunset of a beach and a lighthouse in the foreground.
That was a photo I took as a 'poster' type of thing. But, I want to turn this into a timelapse shot.

I want to do a timelapse of a beach with that lighthouse in the foreground. The lighthouse will be like a silhouette. There will also be a couple leaning against the lighthouse. All as seen on my first page on my website.

Any tips on doing this?
I've never done a timelapse before that actually LOOKED good. I was just playing around with it.

Canon T2i + Magic Lantern

I'm wondering;
Is there a filter I should be using?
If I want a 5sec timelapse, how would I set it up? (It should start with the sun above until it just sets - Mainly above & disappearing)

This is something to add to my Demo Reel.
I will be in this location hopefully for 1 more night before summer end. So, if weather is great, I will have 1 chance to pull this off!

just to understand this right, your finished timelapse should be 5 seconds long?

you'll have to calculate, 24 or 30 fps? p.e. 24 x 5 = 120 shots...

so if the sunset takes two hours you'll need one photo per minute... you'll have to watch the sunset once to estimate how long the time will be, but better add one hour before and after to be safe :)

you could set up an hdr timelapse, if this is supported by ML... 7D owner so don't know ;)
on my batterygrip i can set a time called "long" which simulates that the shutter release is hold for this time, very nice if you are doing hdr timelapse since you can set the overall time you need for all three exposures (running burst mode)

hdr would then need 360 photos, means either one photo every 20 seconds or 3 photos every minute in burst mode

you could then grade the shots in lets say photoshop or whatever software you have available for hdr editing...

for a normal timelapse you could just simply throw the image sequence it in your NLE System and grade the whole clip...

i don't think you should use a filter...
