"Be Famous" shot in Valencia, Spain

Incredible! That was shot with a DVX100?

Patryk, since you were the DP, tell about the lighting setups, at what time of the day you shot that, etc.

Did you do the CC?

Spanish reggaeton/hip-hop star? Bizarre, but very good.

Awe c'mon... lot of CC there. Check out the color gradient overlays on the top and bottom of the screen -- a classic trick! :D

Lighting and CC was key here but what do you mean by: "Check out the color gradient overlays on the top and bottom of the screen -- a classic trick!" ????

We got lucky because we shot it in November so it meant that at any given moment we had far over the horizont lighting (kind like sunset in intensity) moreover as you can see there aren't any clouds around so we had beautiful even sunlight all day long. Then indeed you overlay gradients to give the feeling as if using filters in your camera's mattbox.

Gradient overlays in post are a classic trick -- watch the vid again, notice how the sky is bright yellow in several shots? Look for when actors dip in and out of the center of the frame throughout the vid -- their features take on a completely different hue. It's because they're dipping out of the "safe area" and into the
gradient overlays.

this looked great. only thing that really bothered me was the switching of the aspect ratio. and the music isn't my thing, but that's not what this is about.

good stuff. :)

That video was awesome... That gradient thinga magigy you did was way cool. The look of the video was great.... Loved the music as well... The aspect ration thing was a problem though... was that intentional?

How about the lighting setup? Did you use generators at that plaza or you controlled the light with butterflies and reflectors?

We used 2 large bounce boards and that was it. The budget for the video was cut the last minute and from an HD shoot with cranes it ended up bebing handeld DVX100. That said it wasn't that bad as the light was soft enough not to create too huge of the contast issue even without butterflies -- actually the light was so low over th horizon we could only shoot in that old plaza from 10 am to 1 pm othervise the sun hides behind the buildings!

That looks great. I mean really great. SO ****ING SLICK. Which I adore. The CC work is wonderful.

Outstanding.

Oh and the aspect ration switch was cool and playful. I liked it.

yeah I agree the aspect ratio changes were cool

I would have liked to see more variation with the editing cut timing but the feel of the whole thing looked movie. Very cool.

Did you get any feedback from the band?

the aspect ratio was director's choice. The editing even though i agree could use just a little more variation was done really well i think. it was donr by a duded who just finished editing a feature i shot this summer. Looooong takes of still no action talking heads stuff. I though the most boring stuff ever yet the editor managed to make it seem like a drama/action film...
