ALL: Battery question

I guess the DVX100 was quite the workhorse (2004+). I suppose the attraction to the 160 is the dual SD cards plus the 22x lens?

I really like the 160 and went through a long period deciding whether to buy the 160 or the AF100.

AF100 and AC130/160 are two totally different cameras for different industries. IMHO
I'd produce a TV spot or in the field TV show with AF100 (pre-planned shots)
vs
I would use 130/160 for things like weddings, on the run productions, etc... (unpredictable shoot it as it happens shots)

Hi

Generic batteries will also work in the 130/160 series ..they don't last as long as the genuine ones but are cheap backups...any generic battery like the VB6 that has the decode chip in it will work..batts are interchangeable between the HMC 40,70,80,and 150 too!!

Be careful! I actually had to return the equivalent battery for my AC130 made by PEARSTONE. It did fit, did turn on, but did not sit securely. The slightest jiggle had my cam cutting in and out on me all day on a shoot. Lost a lot of shots because of it. Had to exchange it back for a Panny one. Just throwing a heads up out there.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could have sworn the HMC 150 and the DVX 100 batteries would interchange, if that were the case, then how would the HMC150 and the 130 batteries interchange, but not the DVX100 and the 130s'?????

Nope!! The DVX used the Panasonic CGR series battery. Once the HMC150 came out, Panasonic cleverly added their battery decoder which would decide if your battery was genuine or not .... even if a DVX battery latches into the AC-130 (or HMC150) you would get a message saying "THIS BATTERY CANNOT BE USED" and it then promptly shuts off the camera. Once the HMC's started to gain popularity Panny used a bigger version of the VBX battery they were using in the smaller domestic cameras which also needed a decoding chip in the battery to work...

If it helps any, the DVX batteries fit most LED on-camera lights very nicely!!! I still have a few CGR batteries that power my lights for ages!!

Chris

The DVX batteries will fit on the DVX100 series, HVX200 series, as well as HPX170, and I think also the HPX250. ALL of the HMC series use the same battery which DOES NOT work with the previously mentioned series of cameras, but DOES work on the AC cameras.
