C300: Battery not working in C300

I've got a C300, XF300 and a Marshall monitor that uses Canon batteries.

I've used non-canon batteries on the XF and C300 without any problems. Aldo woks fine on the Marshall.

Recently I purchased a pair of Swit batteries. Tried them on a shoot yesterday and they didn't work.

Tested them just now and it looks like whilst they work ok in the XF and Marshall monitor, they don't work in the C300.

I was under the assumption that the batteries were interchangeable, but appear to be mistaken.

Pic below shows the two types of batteries. The ones with just 2 prongs don't work on the C300.

Im no electronics whiz, but in the battery compartment of the C300 there are 5 contacts per your Calumet battery. Does the XF have these same contacts?

Yes, the older ones....BP-930, BP-945, and the BP-935(shipped w/XF100, XF105) will not run the C300......so any knock-offs based on those older batteries will not work.

Yep, same contacts

Thanks Jim

I'd stick with Canon genuine batteries. You need so few of them, the saving may be pale in regard to the potential damage or troubles on your 16K camera body.

interesting thing i found with the wasabi version, sometimes, if i have it fully charged, and turn the camera on, it won't work, then i put it back on the charger and the charge acts like it's dead, but shortly realizes it's not dead and shows full, then it works fine in the camera. might just be a quirk, or a faulty copy, but seems just when it's at a full charge i have this issue, once it's been used at all it works as normal

According to SWIT US, the image above is not their battery. He said that SWIT S-8845 is compatible with C300 camera. As far as Wasabi battery in the last post, it appears it goes into over current protection due to high power consumption on turn on. The circuit breaker inside is reset by the charger after that, so it works again.

Yep, that isn't the SWIT battery.

These are the 2 SWIT batteries I have and neither work on the C300.

EDIT: Looks like I have the S-8945

Yes, SWIT S-8845 is a smart one - with LEDs and DC jack. It is certified to work.

Received the SWit 8845 batteries for the C300 today.

The good news is they do work on the C300.

Unfortunatly, they won't fit the XF300 as they are too tall, which means they stick out of the C300 more than the Canon battery.
