Battery life heads-up

Not sure if this has been discussed, but the battery does not last too long compared to standard video cameras.

I was walking around my alma mater campus today getting some 1080 beauty shots with the camera on for the most part of about 2 hours while shooting maybe 20 minutes worth of video, and I ran the battery to the very end.

While I guess that is acceptable since it is a smaller battery, it was just a bit eye opening coming from the HVX where the battery would of lasted a LOT longer.

I wrapped a 5DmkII shoot a few weeks ago and we ripped through two batteries over four hours. Not great, but workable. Movie mode sucks down a lot of juice even when you're not shooting (which makes me wonder why we don't have pre/post-roll on solid-state video yet like we do with audio recorders, but that's another post). Having the camera on for two hours in video mode sounds about like what I experienced, although I think we wound up with more footage than 20 minutes.

Two rules for me now: Always bring at least one charger and consider buying a battery grip...or even that darned optional AC battery adapter!
 
I just wrapped a shoot from 10am to 5pm and only went through 1 and a third batteries. I was shocked but super happy.

The cam was on when shooting, which was much of the time, but turned off when directing etc.

Love how fast it is between turning it on and grabbing first frames.
 
What? I havent charged my Bat. in like 2 days and have shot at least 2 hrs. worth of vid in prob 20 min. increments... I have been very happy wit the battery life actually...
 
I just wrapped a sunrise and sunset music video, with about 4 hours of footage, keeping the lcd on only when shooting, I went through 1 and a half of the ebay knockoff batteries. I'm more than enthralled with battery life, especially since I ordered 4 of the knockoffs and only spent $40 total :-D
 
of course. They're still Still cameras at heart, which is where their battery power excels. Nothing like crankin out almost 1000 shots without having to swap batteries
