in how far the book is suitable for PAL dvx?

thanks in advance everybody

Hi Jun,

I have sold many copies to European/PAL users, in England, Scotland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, many places. Perhaps some of them can comment on how useful they find the book/dvd for PAL uses. I tried to make it as comprehensive for PAL as I could, but the DVD is mastered in NTSC mode, so if your TV/DVD player don't support NTSC, you'd probably have to view it on a computer.

Paris -- glad it got there, hope you find it helpful!

For those in Los Angeles, who'd like to be able to walk into a store and pick up a copy, Birns and Sawyer is now carrying it too! So in L.A. you can get it at Birns & Sawyer or also at Abel Cine Tech. Birns & Sawyer will also accept internet orders for it.

And, it's almost cracked the Amazon Top 10 best-sellers list! (er, edit: I mean, top 10,000... guess I'll need a few more orders there before we get near Top 10! It's climbing though, it's #5,620 on their list of DVDs!) :)

I just ordered your book and DVD. I`m looking forward to getting my copy. Thanks in advance from Norway. Preben Bjonnes

I ordered mine late in the afternoon the day before yesterday. The postmark says it was shipped out that same day (!) and I received it today. I'm shocked! I guess it's possible your shipping time may vary, but my point is, my experience was great.

I haven't read the whole thing yet nor watched all of the DVD but obviously this thing is terrific, especially when you consider the factory owner's manual is amazingly lacking in information.

WTG Barry!

Hi Barry,

The dvd and book arrived over here this week. I've read most of the book and watched the dvd. The material is useful for 25P (PAL) users, no doubt about that. It's good material, very informative and helpful. I wasn't aware of the coloring options you have with the DVX, to simulate some Magic Bullet effects. Good work also on the depth of field-tricks and the advices voor filming with progressive material.

One thing was odd. My dvd player (PAL) was able to play the dvd on my PAL tv. But somehow the video wasn't looking as great as it can be. I've got a DVX 24P recorded NTSC dvd from a short movie over here, and it's quality is better. For instance, the shots of the girl that presents the dvd in the beginning have a weird video-film-look feeling, a bit unnatural in some way. How was this recorded?

It was all recorded as standard DVX footage. Some of the segments were shot 24p, some were shot 60i. As far as the segments on the DVD, some were authored as 24p, and some were necessary to author as 60i.

There one was a tall guy named Jarred,
the top of his head was blond hair-ed.
He and his girl took a bath,
with the rubber ducky he hath,
and none of them had clothes that they wear-ed.

Eh. You're probably right, I should stick to the 24p/60i haiku stuff...

Hey all, here's a new store where interested walk-in customers can pick up the DVX Book/DVD: Hello World Communications, a camera rental and video production/post production store at 118 West 22nd St., New York City, NY. Website is http://www.hwc.tv

Will the book be translated into other languages soon?

As it deals with technical issues I think it would be better to read it in one's own language.

Thanks
