I finally ordered my HMC40, and I'm super excited to get it next week. I really admire the honesty on here when I read that producing good footage is in the talent of the artist, not the tool. I've been drawing for years and feel that I do some kickass work with great pencils and all kinds of expensive tools, but I can also do kickass work with a bic #2 and a cleared off coffee table.

That being said, I'm ready to take out my $2000 pencil and do some kickass work. I would also like to buy Barry's hmc150 book, but I want to know how applicable it is to the 40 before I do.

Barry? God? Anyone?
 
I purchased Barry's HMC150 Book for use with the HMC40 and highly recommend it. If you're looking for more information on AVCHD and many of the features of the HMC40, this book will get you most of the way there.
 
I'll second that on the book. From reviews and such about the 150 book, it looks like just the sort of information I am looking for.

I know that publishing takes a bit of time, but any idea when we will be able to order it?
 
having worked around software and video for a bit....I must ask March 2010? :P

Can we get the books direct from you to save a few bucks or are they only being sold at the stores?
 
Barry expects to have the book ready by sometime around March if I understand correctly. Even better a question is when the HMC150/40 book comes out (I don't plan on having a 40) will it be any less detailed on the 150. Also will it be an updated version of his impressions on the 150 (settings . scene files / capture formats). I'm holding off till I find out which book will have more complete most up to date information for the 150.

I def gotta pick it up though.
 
Nothing is taken away from the 150 side, and there are many new articles that are a bit re-oriented towards the first-timer. So all the same tech stuff is in there, but it's in a more approachable style...

Just bought the camera , HMC 41 (PAL) now I need the book to find out what all the knobs and whistles are for.
Will the new book cover PAL settings ? and will you have a UK stockist ?
 
Yes, it will cover all PAL settings.

And I'd love to have a European-based distributor -- if you have any suggestions, let me know.
