Barry, when will the test with the 4 cams be conducted?

I think you have the whole ideology wrong Haakon. I enjoy many of Panasonic's products. I just don't see a need to switch at this current moment (being as a hobbyist w/ prosumer cameras and professional dealing with pro cameras) although declaring that I don't want to switch would be classified as off-topic for this paticular thread. I did say I was sorry for ranting though!

(update)
By the way, I like your avatar - it isn't real... or is it?

Greg,

I was just talking about the reference you made to capitalizing the first letter of your name (the part of your post I quoted)... it had nothing to do with your opinions of Panasonic. :) I wasn't sure if you were being serious or not, but regardless, the complete disregard for anything remotely resembling proper spelling/grammar on these forums is pretty atrocious so I was just poking fun at it. You can see by my signature that I've already offered some helpful reminders, but I don't think anyone pays attention anyway.

The license plate is real. I get a lot of crap for being "pro-digital" amongst a community of "film"-makers (not these forums, but the people I work with), but one day they'll see the light (and they won't even have to wait around for it to get developed!)...

That's way too funny

Please Oh Please slip a green screen test in too... It would be real nice to see how all the cameras do.

But Im sure you got your hands full all ready, but if you can....

remember.... "YOu Can Do It!"

Jay : ok a good scientific approach. Can't wait to read the review:thumbsup:

QUOTE=Jay Nemeth]It would be a waste of time to do it any other way. I will have a Leader waveform/vector, all the necessary charts and a really really good monitor. Cameras will also be checked for auto-white accuracy, performance of the knee circuit, true sensitivity and ISO rating, My plan is to leave with quantifiable measurements of the HVX versus the Varicam and F900. The subjective impression is just as important, however. I've found that I rarely go into a movie theater to enjoy test charts.

We will also be doing Barry's double blind shoot out between the competing HDV cameras. We should probably record the HD-SDI out of the Canon and compare it in that mode also. Should be interesting.

You made the wrong choice greg. You have an opinion, so do I, no need to announce it to the world to make yourself feel better about your money spent.

And what exactly are you announcing with this lovely post?
Thanks for your opinion and link Greg.

I really don't care about this comparison now that I've seen this: http://www.lumieremedia.com/tomorrowistoday/tomorrow_trailer/

It looks good, but it looks like a TV show, not like film. It looks like Survivor or something.
I wonder how much resolution you lose by letterboxing 16:9 to the narrow cinemascope ratio as they did. They are basically using the center of the frame only. It must account to some serious resolution loss.

Can't wait! I'm really interested in seeing if the rumors that Canon's 24F mode creates an odd effect when motion is introduced into the image.

There seem to be some artifacts from deinterlacing, diagonal edges of moving objects like car windshields have a zig-zag pattern as I could observe in images that suposedly were not manipulated and directly posted out of the camera to the web. (I hope, I expressed me well)

And please...give us some stuff about how to shut up the noisy news...with clear, substantive and objective info and evidences! We need to know how to do it regarding the best setting in order to avoid it! BTW with some examples with and without "the noise effect"...

4 cam tests

4 cam tests

hi guys, can you also include the dvx100b in the comparo. I'm sort of doing this between serving customers and I have deep inner fear of being burned, but I can't remember you saying your including it in this shootout.
Yes it's not Hd
Yes people probably seen and read heaps about it
But
as many people on this forum have dvx's, and the rest trying to decide whether its' worth going all the way with hvx or to go with dvx to meet their needs, but even to look at the sd side of the new beast. And please don't flame here either as I've seen others flame someone else who posted on this.
People may be looking at using the dvx as a 'B' camera with hvx, and it'd be good to see how they compare side by side etc etc.

Guys, I know everyone would want to see every possible thing included (I've had requests for an XL2, a Sony DSR450, and a DVX) but there's already SIX cameras in this comparison. So no -- it's simply not possible. We're shooting tomorrow. I'm sure many others will come up with their own comparisons, but we have to go with what we've got and answer the main questions as best we can.

I appreciate people's concerns, and we're trying to address them; but this is an all-volunteer effort, and we're being offered some generous support from some companies to make it happen, and there's only so much time to get it done in.

Initial observations should probably trickle in Wednesday; full report would have to wait until I've had a chance to really critically review all the footage...
