This whole situation has been laughable, and I still don't understand it.
Jan has said now, multiple times, it would be "around $6,000."
Then a representative at the roadshow said it would be "less than $10,000". (So I mean, he did know what he was talking about - he was right, after all.)
And then, for some reason, people freaked out. How are those statements incongruous? "Around $6,000" (i.e. $5,000-$7,000) is definitely "less than $10,000". Had the rep said "closer to $10,000" or "more than $6,000 but less than $10,000" I could understand.
That said, the AF100 is looking to be a very attractive camera at a very attractive price point. I can't wait to see what happens with it.
Not laughable at all. The guy was a rep and therefore should've known the price. While it's true that $6,000 is "under $10,000," you appear to ignore the significance of words. The two phrasings aren't equal. "Around $6,000" can never mean "$9,995," but "under $10,000" can. If I'm not mistaken, the rep's comment came after Jan's. It was therefore logical to allow that the change in phrasing from a Panasonic rep, who should have known the price (since someone is always bound to ask about price), could indeed mean that there was a change in price. After all, things change -- Jan originally said the AF100's sensor was the same as the GH1's, then recently confirmed that it wasn't.
Yeah, maybe too much has been made of an offhand comment. But it also indicates that there may have been a breakdown in communication somewhere.

you people need to stop whining about the price and start saving if you want one.
come on, it's not that hard. and if you can't be bothered to take on an extra job or to downgrade your cable service or stop eating out all the time in order to save up for what will surely be a nice piece of equipment, then why the hell are you in this business anyway?

In fact, "wishing and hoping" can't logically be contrasted with what you hear from me. Initially (about three months ago), I questioned the $6K price, but I recently I questioned only the spurious $10K price, not the $6K one. Even Barry Green did.well im not complaining. im still buying it if its 6k... i just wish it was lower so i can have money on other stuff like.. lenses or matbox filters followfocus... wishing and hoping is different from what you hear from tzedekh
$6k without glass is still a junk of change.
I see a lot of potential purchasers interested in the price of the body, what glass will run, and other anticipated or unanticipated costs. Those factors are part of every purchase decision for many, if not most small business or sole owners.
Many of us do take on extra jobs, have downgraded cable services, and don't eat out at all, and are still cost and budget conscious.
To me that how you make money, by making thoughtful, careful, and well researched decisions.
