HPX250: barry green, please let us know what you know, about the hpx250

hi barry green, let us know what you know about the hpx250, it seems the 250 is used by only a hand full of filmmakers and camera men. still very little infos, (there is one on slashcam.com). maybe you can give us an informative preview of your book, with some essentials from the hpx250, we will still buy the book ;).

isnt the chip the same for Ac130/160 and the hpx250?

I just want to know the Sharpness and Low light performance Vs Hpx170.
could you explain what the P.A.P Filters are ? i understand they are used for the low light feature of the camera?

and is there any noticeable difference in quality from hpx250 over hpx170??

since its 10bit 422 isnt dvcprohd 8 bit 422?

i basically want a upgrade from my hpx170 in about 5-7 months.

im leaning toward ac130, sharer?? better low light? and better LCD/VF?

There are a bunch of us that have 250s.

What questions do you have?
hi David! I need to buy a cam in the next 2weeks, not shure if i go for the canon xf300/05 or the hpx250. any preferences. i read the canon lens and autofocus is better, the panasonic codec is better, also the 5year guaranty. i´m mostly working by myself, traveling with my cam and depending on it, doing art, docu & tv-commercials. i own a 5d and lenses etc, but for my next projects I need a very reliable tool, a real camera.

The HPX250 resolves detail on a different level than a pixel shifted 540 vertical chipset 170. No comparison on wide shots.

Two PAP filters, one is 3D adaptive motion noise reduction--very clean, fast, but can cause motion artifacts in some situations. Level 2 is slower, still quieter than other
Panasonic palmcorders, but no concerns over artifacts.

Yes.

Yes, DVCPRO HD is 8-bit, 3/4 sub-sampled for horizontal resolution. Intra 100 is 10-bit, 4X the color depth, full raster square pixels.

250 LCD is much better than 170, lens is amazing, knee control offered in Cine gamma, HD-SDI and HDMI out, TC in/out, genlock in, codec is amazing, and very importantly to me, 20-bit DSP is superior to 170, 130, 160 for highlight handling.

160 and 130 have no advantage in resolution or low light--same sensor as 250.

According to how I interpret the manual, it appears the only possibility for shooting 48 fps is in overcrank mode while shooting at 720/60p (or 720/50p). No support for overcrank in 1080p greater than 30 fps.
