FS7: Bag suggestion

I'm loving my Pearstone Bag. Very large (but not ridiculous), Hold camera, a few lenses, 3 large v mounts and then some. It has a nice Nice bright interior, wheels/handle or shoulder strap (metal hinges), solid, and at $139 it's really affordable!

I also have this bags little brother, which is almost as good. The only gripe I have about the smaller one is that the shoulder strap connection is made out of plastic so you wouldn't want to put anything too heavy in this one. That being said, I've used it for the FS7 with one lens and a couple of vmounts:

Would love to see a couple of shots of the gear in that Pearstone if you wouldn't mind? Looking for something with built in wheels and the upcoming Orca-OR14 is taking its time and is going to be a lot pricier.

For those interested in ORCA products there is a summer special running currently in the US for the Camera Backpacks and Shoulder bags of 10% off. Built with a special honeycomb padding and an aluminum frame these are quite secure in their design to provide solid equipment protection hold up for years to come.

The OR-14 looks like a very promising bag and following recent testing some final design changes were implemented. The OR-14 is set to begin delivery in the US sometime in August. Another unique offering from Orca will be the OR-48. This is a large rolling bag that for one man packages you could easily have your sound kit and camera kit in the same bag. http://www.orcabags.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/unnamed-5.jpg

The is a tray inside the bag that comes out and can be attached to the outside of the ORCart and used as a table/stand for your audio mixer, laptop for download station or other use when/where you may not have a table readily available. The OR-48 is expected to come to be available sometime at the end or August or more likely early September. For one man band kind of productions a rolling bag of this size and type could make one less trip to the vehicle, there for quicker set up and tear down etc...

I just got a large reinforced bag from Home Depot for 70 bucks, Husky brand. fits camera fully built and all accesories along with lenses and back Husky | Model #:GP-45216AN13

Ben, I see in the picture that you have some little quick-releases that look like the Photography & Cinema QR Mini, how do you like it? I have the 16x9 CineLock, and they are nice but they are twice the price of the P&C ones. I'm wondering if they are cross compatible...

Yep it's those exact ones. They are great for the money but there is a tiny bit of play in the connection - less than 1mm but it bugs me - that doesn't affect their strength or safety but is probably the difference between them and the much more expensive variants. Pretty sure these are a direct ripoff of those cinelocks so imagine they would fit.

I use it for connecting my Oddysey 7Q on an F&V magic arm when I need it and it handles that absolutely fine.

I apologize I'm only getting around to this now, it's been a long summer and the camera has been on location most of the time.

Here is a picture of the pearstone large bag (the one with the wheels and metal strap supports.). I put some of my gear it in to give you a sense of the size. You can see the FS7 only taking up a small part of the bag. other items pictured include: 5 lenses, 3 large v-mount batteries (kayo maxtar), memory cards, lens cleaner, speedbooster on the FS7, there's even a gopro in there and still room for more. I don't usually shoot with the hand grip or LCD loupe but sometimes I'll bring them along in the bag and I'll even put a small shoulder mount or ballhead in the bag also.

The interior is a nice light color, the sections are velcro and movable, and the bag holds a very nice solid shape. For the price, I don't think you can go wrong with this bag, highly recommended.

Would love to see how you got it into a 1510 as I currently have two of them.

Seems there's a lot of interest in stuffing the FS7 into a Pelican 1510. Saw a post on Sony's forum (so imagine many others have too) that linked to various Pelican's customized for FS7 packages, including the 1510. These seem good solutions, particularly for rentals, or shipping.

I avoid Pelican's as carry-ons due to their weight, & typically use Think Tank's International roller. If I was going to carry-on a 1510 I'd likely try TrekPak's offering.

Yes, great news Jim. I have to say that my Orca-12 is absolutely perfect for my FS7, with an attached Nikon 80-200. And I'm able to keep the viewfinder on and just tilt it down. I can just grab it and go. The bag is tough and here's something not to overlook---super easy to open, which is great if you're in a rush. I have found myself in that situation a few times now as I'm traveling and filming wildlife in a National Wildlife Refuge. I can't say enough about this bag. And looking forward to the new one to help in holding audio as well. Awesome stuff.

I bought a Tamrac Anvil 27 and sent it back after I realized that the most important thing for me (besides protecting the gear inside the bag) is the ability to leave the camera assembled and pull it out and start shooting. With the configuration of the FS7, that pretty much eliminates the backpack approach.

Porta Brace have several new bags made for the FS7 which are larger than the first one they put out, which apparently isn't quite tall enough. However, they are pretty spendy, maxing at about $475 at B&H. I liked the biggest one with wheels ($476), but the price tag made it unattainable. Then I remembered that Porta Brace also have an older, non-camera-specific line of larger bags, with and without wheels. The one that looks almost identical to the one that has "FS7" in its name is model CAR-4CAMOR, and it's listing at $320 at B&H (special order only)...so I'm ordering one. It should hold the FS7 with all the goodies on, now and in the future, or, if I really want to pack in other gear, the FS7 can be downsized and put in a corner.

I hope I like it as much as I think I will.

when I 'm flying I have a small backpack that i have to take the camera apart for . I use my Orca 12 for clothes or other accessories. Then when I land I switch out to the Orca 12 again. It is never completely built in that though so I am interested in the Orca 14. Pearstone large bag looks interesting and cheap but I really like having more outside pockets. Orca 12 barely makes it on that score.

I use this bag to carry my fs7 as carry on

http://store.lowepro.com/shoulder-bags/urban-reporter-350

It's a very light bag , I fly with bpu batteries and leave the v locks at home and the replace my 28-135 with an 18-105 zoom for run and gun and another lens. I'd like to get rid of the sony loupe and get the ( overpriced ) zacuto to give me even more room. All up my carry on kit is under 7 kilograms ( australian ) which is perfect for carry on.

The airlines here are getting strict on carry on weighing items, especially the cheaper airlines. I always used to carry on my betacam and then p2 but I think those days are coming to an end. I have checked cameras before but its always a risk.

I keep my FS7 in a Petrol 102 Deca U-Bag (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/686558-REG/Petrol_PC102_PC102_Deca_U_Bag.html) with the handgrip detached. If the Petrol 104 Rolling Bag was at the current sale/clearance price (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/813565-REG/Petrol_PC104_PC104_Deca_Rolling_U_Bag.html), I would have bought that instead, as the wheels would be very convenient. These bags are huge, have just the right sized compartments/pouches for everything (an extra V-mount battery, a VCT-U14 Tripod Plate, pens and more), but they will never go on a plane. They are very convenient and well made, but the size is almost too much for me as I'm fairly short.
