FS7: Bag suggestion

I fly on smaller planes frequently and have gotten in some tough spots with my ThinkTank Airport Security bag. My plan for smaller flights is to check non-essentials and try the FS7 (completely stripped down) in the ThinkTank Airport Commuter which is said (by reviewers) to fit on CR200 type planes:

As for everyday use, I've ordered the Orca-24 as I'd like to keep the camera almost fully built.

The rub for any storage is that grip arm. I don't see any way that it won't have to be re-positioned when storing the camera in a case or bag.

I got the camera fully assembled with the grip, Rods, VCT base plate inside a CB40 bag albeit not one small enough for air travel. I posted a link to the pic in my post on first page.

use 'wingrove' for a discount code and at the moment they have some other discounts going on and I think you can double up.

Alternately make your own with some correx and 1/8" foam :)

EDIT: That Orca bag looks quite good. A little smaller than the (now discontinued) Kata One Man Band 74 I just bought but if they do one size up from that I'm sure it would be great. Any ideas on prices?

"wingrove" for a discount where?

Thanks,
Robert

I am with you all the way with ThinkTank Airport security, Airport International, and Airport backpack, I own and use all three all the time, along with my Storm cases and some other packs. I like the look of the commuter for the CR200 which are always the problem flights with gear. 737 is easy and bigger well very easy.

Currently on the CR200's I use two bags carry on. A lowepro Flipside 400AW under my seat. It holds still camera, all my video lens, batteries, ipad. Then I use LowePro Stealth Reporter D400AW in the overhead. That holds camera body and VF, and small stuff packed in.

Of course all gear is broken down and this has worked well. This makes me check my wireless and that always scares me. I do bring two shotguns in the carry on. So replacing the Stealth Reporter with the Commuter would add a little room and that is always nice.

I have the evf mounted and folded over the lens and the loupe off and in one of the velcro pouches in my OMB 74

Will take photos when i have a chance. I think i would like the slightly larger 75 model if i get the back extension. It will fit the 74 but i might not get all my accessories in there.

I will get pricing up tomorrow. The orca bags are in 3 different sizes. Info will come Monday 12/8

Thanks again. I ordered the 74 and would really like to see how you pack it.

Take it EZ,
Robert

Won't be until Wednesday evening I'm afraid but the best thing I did was augment the inside with a Trekpak rollipak 48. Everything fit anyway but now it's all nice and divided up and organised.

Just got the ORCA 24 and not sure how it's supposed to fit- the handle sits over the top by about 3 inches. You can zip it up, but it pushes on the mic mount in a way that makes me nervous it will eventually break off...

EDIT: Just realized because I have the Zacuto VCT plate on my camera it probably adds another few inches. Betting without the plate it would fit nicely. My bad.

I had the same issue with my CB40 bag what really helped (I saw another user do it here) is to flip the mic mount around so it hangs below the handle line. Of course this will only work if you use a short shotgun otherwise it might get in the picture but I really like it now. It shaved just enough off to allow me to fit it in the bag without removing baseplate which was important to me as I'm pretty much leaving it on as part of the camera.

Do you keep it mounted like this permanently or just for travel? Do you have a photo?
