bag for HPX300

I did a search in the HPX300 forum but this seems not to be covered yet. What kind of bag do you guys use. I am looking for a bag which fits the HPX300 with battery, and MKH416 mic. and of coarse EVF (hast to be because it is not detachable). One dealer suggested the Petrolbag PCUB-3 (is it not too big?). What about Portabrace (I always hear people say it is the best quality but more heavy than Petrolbags). Any suggestions for a portabrace (from their site I get a lot of hits when I select the HPX300 so it is confusing).

I'll second the PortaBrace Carry-On recommendation. I have the standard version, not the Panasonic one, but it looks like the same bag.

Great bag, pockets on the front are spacious, and you can't beat the build quality.

I can't find it on the portabrace site only the COAMB not the PACOABP2HD neither the COABP2HD !!!!

You won't find the PACOABP2HD on the Porta Brace website since its built exclusively for Panasonic as it has the Panasonic P2 logo on it.

CO-AB-MB (B&H# POCOABMB) and CO-AB-P2HD (B&H # PACOABP2HD) are virtually the same case.

There is a P2HD-CASE (B&H# PAP2HDCASE) which is 2" wider and also built specially for Panasonic camcorders.

Good luck in your findings.

The Panasonic/Portabrace case has a pocket that will hold the P2 Gear or Portable, plus a bunch of other stuff.

Very nice case.

So the official order/part number of this panasonic dedicated case for the HPX300 is PACOABP2HD (or is this just the B&H order nr.) ? and can I order it at any portabrace dealer in The Netherlands or is it only available via Panasonic?

That is the B & H number. Our number is the P2HD-Case. I do not believe that the Netherlands Panasonic Group has ordered these from us or Portabrace. You may need to purchase from a vendor that is willing to ship.

And Andrew it really is a nice case for any of the shoulder mount cameras, and there is the pocket for the P2 Portable so you have room for the camera to have a battery on the back of the camera and room for everything.

All the best,

Jan

Petrol for me.

Petrol for me.

The Petrol line is really nice, I ended up getting a PDRB-5 for my 300. I can place the camera with a 4x5 matte box, wireless plate and battery attached, carry an additional battery and charger and fit extra bits in the side pockets. With the wireless plate attached it's a tight fit- without it fits like butter.

I looked at the Porta-Brace, but they don't offer the protection that the Petrol does, and I like the doctors bag functionality of the PDRB-5 better.

Looks like a nice bag and the reinforment for EVF is nice but without mattbox isn't it to big and will it shift in the bag ? Does it fir with an MKH416 on the HPX300? what about the PDRB-4 is it too small?

The P2HD-Case has protection for the VF built-in as well, and it is a little narrower than the Petrol. There are pockets to the outside of the camera holding are for things to be stashed so that they don't rub up against the camera body and scratch it. It was part of the choice that I made when we were designing the bag. I don't like a lot of uncontolled intems in the camera area. I wanted the camera to be protected and I wanted the camera to be removed easily. The zipper goes from floor to floor so the bag opens like a clamshell.

Best,

Jan

Would that be to big for a carry on?

Yeah it's definitely too big to carry on. Pretty much any bag is too big these days. For carry on, I'd carry the camera bare onto the plane. I bought this bag for day to day use in the field, travel wasn't a consideration.

Hotchkiss is totally right there, many planes don't seem to have the overhead room they used to have. I would normally check the bag and hand carry the camera with a battery on the back. Hve had to do this a number of times.

Without the matte box being attached, a smaller bag would probably be better. The bag does have internal tie down straps for the camera, which really help to secure the camera. As for the PDRB-4, I don't know how that would fit.

Good point about the battery, the collective brain trust of the TSA folks will be seriously challenged by a camera that can't be powered up.

For carrying a camera onboard, I prefer the bare camera method, but using a camera glove from either Porta-Brace, Kata or the like can offer a lot of protection in transit. Either that, or hoard all of the blankets you can find and swaddle your baby for the flight.

Where do you put the bare camera once you're on the plane? Hold it in your lap for the flight? I can't imagine putting it up in the overhead bin without any protection. Does it fit under the seat?
