Bad Link for the REDuser.

Didn't know where to put this... but, the banner that pops up on the homepage of DVXuser from time to time advertising the RED leads you to REDUSER.COM instead of REDUSER.NET

i.e: click on the banner> you end up at the wrong website.

just a heads up to whoever handles those things.

Ya, whenever i click on the banner that says 2260 what the...? (or whatever it says)

It takes to me to this unknown page, definatly not RED lol

rcbrown23 - thanks for pointing that out. I have corrected the banner to correctly link to '.net' rather than '.com'

Thanks,
Larry

That is exactly how I lost my site... I'm sorry to see that it has happened to so many other people.

For those who were ignorant like I was... the company that you pay monthly or annual HOSTING to is not the same company that you are paying DOMAIN REGISTRATION to... even though the HOSTING companies make it look that way. The REGISTRAR of the name will be enom.com or tucows.com (most likely) even when you sign up with godaddy or whoever.

If you have a domain issue with either of those REGISTRARS, you will NOT get customer service from them! If you want to protect your domain name from such a fate as we saw in the clicked banner... you need to keep your domain fees paid up in advance. Just because you let your host lapse you CAN'T let your domain lapse. THERE ARE PEOPLE WAITING TO SNIPE YOUR DOMAIN NAME JUST LIKE AN EBAY AUCTION... you can look up domain names that are about to become available due to some issue and people set up "snipe accounts" to get an existing domain name that is already getting traffic... at the very SECOND that it expires! I tried to get my own domain back after an issue and it was gone in the minute that it was available! I was stunned... as I was entering my CC info it already said it was unavailable. That was a bad day. I couldn't pay in advance because when a domain lapses the registrar holds the name hostage for 30X the normal rate... and Ipower said it wasn't their problem... so nobody helped me to get my own name back... and I couldn't beat the "sniper" that I didn't know existed... unless I'd have paid the 30X rate.

The smartest thing you can do is make sure that your possession of your domain name is completely separate from the hosting account! I would NOT take the "free domain registration" that is offered from so many hosts. One way or another... if you ever switch hosts... you'll see that they don't make much effort to ensure that you keep that "free" domain registration.

"Buyer Beware"

I know so many people in this situation right now that it's not even funny.

I pointed it out to ! :(

To be fair, you pointed it out in a thread where it has already been pointed out. But if you have to know, the reason I single out rcbrown is because I originally had a separate comment for each of you. The one comment you see for rc, then a separate one directed at you cause I didn't know what banner you were talking about. I finally looked up the banner image and figured out you were talking about the same one, so I deleted my comment asking you for more information and didn't think to remove the direct reference to rcbrown.

Matt - Um, what? I'm not sure what you're talking about. The problem was that our banner was linking to the wrong URL. Our URL hadn't been sniped, unless I'm misunderstanding.

I think matt's point was that someone else registered REDUSER.com in hopes of getting traffic from people who meant to go to REDUSER.net.

I think he's under the impression that REDUSER.net WAS originally REDUSER.COM.

I know exactly what he's talking about because it just happened to me. Just last month. As a short explanation...T he hosting company went out of business, and the guy from the hosting company who did the "free registration" thing registered MY site in HIS name. And we have no way of finding this poo poo head. So I have no way of getting my own web site back until the registration expires. I applied for my own "snipe" bid to buy back my own URL, but now after i read his post I'm worried that someone else might be doing the same thing and willing to fork out more $$ and beat me.

That would suck.

reduser.com was probably taken the instant RED was announced.

Heck, Jarred was weeks ahead of the curve when the HVX200 name was annouced. He knew *something* was coming, so he guessed and bought a few names. hvxuser.com was one of them, he choose "wisely" :)

Notice how there is a camera-Xuser.com for just about everything these days!

dvxuser.net
reduser.com
4kuser.com
siuser.com
dvuser.com
dvuser.co.uk
videouser.com (caution, pop-ups)
camerauser.com (more pop-ups)
camuser.com
hduser.com
hdvuser.com
xdcamuser.com
sonyuser.com
hpxuser.com
hdxuser.com
dvx100user.com
hvx200user.com
p2user.com
panasonicuser.com
a1user.com
xlh1user.com
canonuser.com

and some funny ones:
blueuser.com
greenuser.com
no "yellowuser.com" or "tealuser.com" though...

the only truly original one out of the bunch is plain and simple "user.com". :)
a couple of the others are active (as basically rip-offs) but the majority are just cyber squatters hopeing to make a fast buck.

also, no "camera-xuser.com" either .. hmm
