Bad experience with Indie Snap Mattebox

I ordered the "indie snap" matte-box for my dvx 100b on 5/9/07.

As of 6/19/07, I still have not received my order -- despite having sent numerous e-mails to Todd Poirier informing him of the situation.

He responds (within a few hours of receiving my e-mails --via his blackberry) assuring me that he is "on top of the matter," and "resolving the problem."

When, after about five e-mails like this, I requested that he send me the UPS tracking information (or an invoice #) he confessed to not having any of that information -- or that the information was some how inadvertently "lost."

I'm not really sure what he or his company is up to -- but I really wish that I would have bought a matte box from ANY other company.

With the benefit of some 20/20 hindsight now, I see all the DANGER SIGNS. The Dakotapod's Indie Snap Mattebox site has no physical address or phone number to call. Bad sign. Stupid me!

Todd strikes me as less than honest -- even giving the impression i(n his e-mails) as to being slightly removed from the actual shipping/ordering aspect of his company -- and yet my paypal payment went to him.

My advice: look elsewhere for matte-boxes.

Folk Dancing For Tips,

I am experiencing the exact same problem you had - it has been 11 weeks since i made my order. I requested a refund from Todd and he told me "I will refund your payment immediately..." That was a week ago. Did you ever get your money back?

I order a dolly in march 2008 and now it is august (soon september) and still have not got anything or my money back. I also got several "I will refund your payment immediately...".

If I were you I would issue a stop payment through your bank and make a claim for the amount paid. I had to do that with an online company that tried to screw me but the stop payment was relatively easy to do and the bank seems to always be on your side. It should be an open and shut case if you have not received anything.

Hi! I tried to do that. The problem was that Todd Poirier had a lot of explanations why the delivery was delayed (problem with the mailserver, overseas shipping takes time, "hm, I DID send it to you" AND "yes, I'm going to send it so you can track it" or "I will refund your payment immediately") and... whops... the period PayPal have (I think 40 days) to complain to get a refound was over. Still after six month... no product and still no money. I will never use Paypal again for transactions, and my opinion about Todd... well I think you know that...

This is an old thread. Either way I hope you guys get your money back. I hate online scamming scum bags.

You can always stop a payment and make a claim using your bank. Don't go through paypal or anyone else, just the bank that belongs to the card you used. They will fight for you especially in this kind of situation.
And once you make a claim you will probably start hearing from the sales guy trying to settle with you and avoid the dispute. Ignore the calls or tell him that the claim stands and there's nothing he can do to settle it personally. They may be a little threatening, saying things like, "we will win the dispute and you will lose money" or they may call late at night or very early in the morning just to bug you. Don't let it get to you and don't settle. They will even try to give you free stuff that is usually crap anyway. Stick to your guns and trust the bank to solve the problem.

Todd responded my emails 4/5 times (using the blackberry services)... never received my products which i have paid for + extra service charges for express shipping. ! now it is being 2 months ! no tracking #, no products...

All of this in terms of quality is very good, but delivered the product? I have bought and paid with paypal a matte box for canon xha1 on 5 June 2008. I have not arrived. I sent numerous e-mail address to request a tracking number, but nothing, no response. Take advantage of this thread for me to respond by the company and understand the why of this incredible behavior. For fear that my mail was spam in the end, I sent this information with an email address, but nothing. So my question is: get the goods?

Giovanni.

I also have had a bad experience with Todd Poirer, and I have threatened legal action finally. I bought a matte box from him before and no problem, but when I ordered a new HD version, he never sent the new matte box and or responded to my emails after the first few.

call your bank or credit card company or paypal and request that they not send the money. I've been in these situations before, so i call them up and have them not send the money. if its been a long time , contact the better business bureau, they may be able to help.

Just throwing this out there; I wont buy anything that has the words Indie and Snap in the companies name... just saying... :P

I took a look around the indiesnap website and got a funny feeling; decided I didn't want to do business with them and, after reading this thread, I'm glad I listened to my intuition. I ordered my mattebox system from Cavision through Adorama and I've been abusing it a bit and it's held up. I like it very much and I'll continue to use it until I upgrade to a Chrosziel.

i think all the customers who suffered with INDIESNAP and/or TODD P should have lodge a compliance to the Canadian Police (online crime unit)... now i can see TODD has reopened another site flexdolly.com as his INDIESNAP is questionable in many forums alike this.

There must be a reason for Todd to do this .
I have bought 2 from him and the service was outstanding .
