backup recording? To disk?

page 46 of the manual explains backup recording. I still don't understand- does this mean record in real time to disk, or once you have footage on a P2 you connect with FireWire and transfer it? I hooked up the cam and tried to capture w/FCP. No dice.
 
You can record to Firestore FS-100, or with DVCProHD codecs installed to HD Monitor or Scopebox.

You can capture non Native DVCProHD footage out firewire if you match cam settings to FCP settings, and use capture now with a noncontrollable device.
